5 - Rolex / JLC / Zenith / Seiko / Citizen - 202412172345

Collector:

Thought I would do a collection update.

Rolex Explorer 40

This is my most recent acquisition. It was purchased for a work milestone. Loving it so far and it currently takes up 99% of my wrist time. I was considering a titanium IWC mark xx but opted for this in the end. Had avoided rolex for almost 10 years in the hobby but I see the reason people love them.

Zenith El Primero Chronomaster

I had purchased a speedy when I got admitted as a lawyer but stupidly sold it. I acquired this to replace it. Was a one-watch owner, owned by a former watchmaker from the Rolex SC.

JLC Reverso

Gift from my wife for our engagement. Probably my favourite. Gets worn less now but gets busted out for special occassions.

Seiko SPB 143

This was a gift for my 30th. Has travelled many places as my companion on many treks, hikes and dives. Great watch to grab for the beach. I think the 62MAS is the perfect dive watch design.

Citizen Promaster

Just a bit of fun and a lume dial - whats not to love.

Whats next?

I think a gold dress watch, PP, VC or JLC ultra thin or an ALS.

What would you get next and why?

What’s in your watch roll today? Not your whole collection. Just the few in your rotation this week.. I’ll start!

Tudor, Seiko and Dennison..

Some Swiss, some Japanese and some British..

One auto and two quartz. All three watches relatively small..

One from 1981, one 2023 and one 2024!

5 - Rolex / Rolex / Rolex / Rolex / Rolex - 202412141238

Collector:

I have never understood the whole Stainless Steel attraction… and it’s even more nonsensical when they start selling for more than Precious Metal..
but those who are happiest in this hobby are those who ignore hype and just buy what they like… Rolex is so much more than GMTs and Submariners..

1. Daydate40 - in Yellow Gold, it’s a bit ostentatious, and on the flashy side, but with this piece, it’s almost the point

2. The GMT rootbeer - because in full RG, it might just be the most beautiful piece Rolex have ever made-produced..

3. The Sky-Dweller - because it’s an annual Calendar with Dual Timezone functionality… woefully under appreciated for the achievement in watchmaking it truly is.. and the Rhodium dial with RG is just 🔥🔥
And the oysterflex is actually better than I would have expected.

3. The Daytona… because you need a Daytona.. but look at the difference in “Everose” compared to the GMT and SkyD … I’m guessing that there was less copper in that recipe..
5. The DateJust41 .. I still think that the Datejustvis the quintessential Rolex, not the Submariner… and the 41 has nearly perfect proportions … provided it has. A fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet …😉

2 - Tag Heuer / Rolex - 202412081737

Collector:

Guess you could say I’m a sucker for black faced watches with no date windows. I have my eyes on a Tudor Monochrome or Longines Legend Diver as my next addition.

-Tag Heuer Carrera - grew up around cars and racing. My dad has had a Ferrari F1 poster in the basement with the Heuer logo on it for as long as I can remember and I always wanted one. Didn’t want to go that vintage so this is the next best thing.

-Rolex Explorer - always loved the no date sub as a kid but as I got older the less popular, more understated Explorer just grew on me.

AI Review Highlights:

This compact two-watch collection combines the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph 1964 Re-Edition CS3111, a faithful homage to the original motorsport icon with its panda dial and manual-wind chronograph, alongside the Rolex Explorer at $8,590 secondary market value, a minimalist tool watch epitomizing reliability for adventurers; together they offer a cohesive blend of racing heritage and field-ready simplicity powered by high-end Swiss movements (manual CH 80 ~40h reserve for Tag, automatic 3230 70h for Rolex), targeting enthusiasts seeking versatile luxury sports pieces with historical depth.

Better late than never. I'm a purist, and I love watches that scream their brand's DNA. Here are 5 watches from my collection that best represent my lifestyle, budget, and taste in watches.

*I had a tough time between my FXD and my Black Bay (for sentimental reasons), but eventually went ahead with the former. The BB line may be the flagship/heritage model for Tudor, but I strongly believe that the Pelagos line is the future and the best representation of modern-day Tudor. Also, I have been enjoying my FXD a lot more.

P.S. My Gorilla watches deserve a special category on its own.
