Watch Description

The ref. 6146-8000 is an excellent example of a Grand Seiko that follows many of the tenets of Taro Tanaka's "Grammar of Design." Tanaka was a designer that worked for Seiko and developed the theory as an overriding design language for Seiko watches to utilize, starting in 1962. He was hired by Seiko in 1959 and is regarded as the first trained designer to work for the company. The "Grammar of Design" is a set of rules that must be followed when designing a new watch. The case of any new model must not have a traditionally round shape, and all surfaces and angles from the case to the dial and hands must be flat to reflect light. The surfaces must be mirror finished and there should be no visual distortion from any angle. This theory is still in use by Grand Seiko today, over 50 years later.
