Watch Description
1928 Hamilton Engraved Cushion
The first World War demonstrated that wrist watches were much more convenient than pocket watches and the first generation of "trench watches" were born. These were often smaller pocket watch movements fitted into modified cases.
Around 1924 Hamilton introduced a new line of 6/0 sized wristwatches in cushion-shape (sometimes called "cushion form"). They were marketed for men of action... the sporting type, where pocket watches just aren't as convenient.
Case: The Cushion is not a fragile timepiece. This example is in excellent condition with just light overall wear to the bezel engravings. Thunderbird engravings and a flared and ornately engraved center case body. In 1928 it was priced to consumers at $52.00. It is quite scarce, with only around 2,000 produced.
The case is 14K White Gold Filled with beautiful carving on the bezel and movement holder – (front and sides.). The Wadsworth case is in excellent to mint condition. It has a detachable bezel and snap back. Case measures 35mm long and 27mm wide. Case-back is excellent and has a nice scripted dedication “TJB”
The dial was professionally restored here in our shop with the correct print two tone silver dial with painted numerals were filled with Super-Luminova and are glowing nicely in the dark. A minute track along the outer edge and recessed sub-second at 6. It comes with the original set of decorated luminous cathedral hands.
Movement: Open this amazing timepiece and you'll find a factory original Hamilton 987 with 17 ruby-jeweled high-grade American-made manual-wind movement that has been completely cleaned, oiled and calibrated on our Timegrapher and is keeping excellent time. Serial number 2282933 was recorded in the Hamilton Co. manufacturing records in 1928.
Attached to this watch is a new classic black leather band, 16mm wide with anti-allergic matching tone buckle.
