Tissot remain the best value for money Swiss watches from this period.  They were made in relatively large numbers, and the finishing on things like the movements is not the highest grade (but far from the lowest either), but they still provide great watchmaking heritage, good design, reliability and for fractions of the price of other brands.  The case is design called C, after the Omega Constellation, which has a smooth, constant curve on the outside and very strong lugs.
