Watch Description
First introduced in 1983 and then revived again in 2017, the Panthere watch collection has been an important one for Cartier and a favorite among celebrities and regular folk alike. While there are many Cartier Panthere watch variations, the design traits that generally tie them together are square cases, square bezels, classic Cartier dial layouts, and most importantly, supple link bracelets.
The panther has long been an important emblem of the House of Cartier, cherished for its fierceness, gracefulness, mysteriousness, and beauty. In 1914, Louis Cartier commissioned the “Lady With a Panther” drawing from renowned French illustrator George Barbier to use on a Cartier jewelry exhibition invitation. That same year, Cartier created a magnificent ladies’ wristwatch featuring a panther pattern in black onyx and diamonds.
Cartier has since continued to use the panther as inspiration, creating spectacular jewelry featuring the striking feline throughout the decades. There are Cartier pieces featuring panther heads, entire panther silhouettes, and panther-inspired patterns.
In 1983, Cartier unveiled the Panthere de Cartier watch collection, which doesn’t feature the beautiful beast in an obvious manner but rather subtly. The Panthère de Cartier watch was named after its flexible bracelet that mimics the big cat’s graceful movement. The bracelet was explicitly designed so that the Cartier Panthere watch can double as a jewelry piece; beauty and functionality rolled into one, wrapped stylishly around the wrist. According to Cartier, the Panthere introduced the concept of the jewelry watch.

### Watch Summary:
The Cartier Panthere 1320 is a quintessential example of Cartier's dedication to elegance and timeless design. Classified under the Formal/Business style category, this watch is perfect for those who appreciate understated luxury and classic aesthetics. The Panthere collection is renowned for its sleek lines and sophisticated appeal, making it a favorite among those attending formal events or professional settings. This model features a quartz movement, ensuring precision and low maintenance, with a power reserve typical of quartz watches, which is essentially continuous as long as the battery is functional. The watch's design is characterized by its iconic square case and bracelet, which seamlessly integrates into a cohesive and elegant timepiece. The Cartier Panthere is ideal for individuals who value heritage and style, offering a refined look that complements both formal and business attire.
### Overall Watch Rating: 7.4/10.0
- **Dials & Design Metric (8.5/10.0)**
The Cartier Panthere 1320 showcases exceptional craftsmanship with its iconic square dial and seamless integration of the bracelet. The use of high-quality materials and the attention to detail in the design elevate its aesthetic appeal.
- **Brand Metric (8.0/10.0)**
Cartier is a renowned luxury brand with a strong heritage in watchmaking and jewelry. The Panthere collection is a testament to Cartier's reputation for elegance and sophistication, contributing to its high brand score.
- **Material Metric (7.8/10.0)**
The watch features high-quality materials, including stainless steel with a polished finish. While luxurious, the use of standard materials limits the score compared to more exotic options.
- **Functions Metric (7.5/10.0)**
The Panthere 1320 offers basic functionality with its quartz movement, providing reliable timekeeping. Its water resistance is suitable for everyday wear, though not designed for extensive water exposure.
- **Versatility Metric (7.5/10.0)**
This watch is versatile within formal and business settings, but its design limits its adaptability to casual or sporty environments. It excels in its intended use case, offering elegance and sophistication.
- **Rarity Metric (7.0/10.0)**
While the Panthere collection is well-known, the specific model 1320 is less common, offering a moderate level of exclusivity. Its production numbers are not limited enough to significantly boost its rarity score.
- **History & Innovation Metric (7.0/10.0)**
The Panthere collection has a rich history within Cartier's lineup, though it does not introduce groundbreaking innovations. Its design remains a classic, contributing to its historical significance.
- **Movement Metric (6.8/10.0)**
The quartz movement provides accuracy and low maintenance, but lacks the complexity and craftsmanship associated with mechanical movements. It is reliable but not innovative.
- **Complications Metric (6.5/10.0)**
The watch is time-only, with no additional complications. This simplicity aligns with its design philosophy but limits its score in this metric.
### Celebrity and Historical Figures:
The Cartier Panthere has been a favorite among celebrities and fashion icons. Princess Diana was often seen wearing a Cartier Panthere, highlighting its appeal among the elite. The watch's timeless design and association with luxury make it a popular choice for those in the public eye, further cementing its status as a symbol of elegance and sophistication.</p>
