Watch Description

Cartier Santos Carrée History:
The Cartier Santos dates back to 1904, when Louis Cartier created a watch for his good friend, a Brazilian aviator by the name of Alberto Santos-Dumont. The Santos was only ever executed in precious metal and on a leather strap until 1978, when the market had already shifted to steel sports watches such as the Nautilus, Royal Oak, and other sports Rolex. Cartier had a real problem growing within their watch department, as precious metal watches were much more expensive than what was already on the market. Their marketing manager, Dominique Perrin, came up with the idea of using the Santos to launch a new affordable sports watch appealing to many audiences. It was the first time Cartier used steel in any watch and was considered sacrilegious considering they are a jeweller. The watch was also one of the few on the market using two-tone, a mix of steel and gold. Over time, the design language has stayed the same with the Santos, with the Carrée being its birthplace.

## Watch Summary
The Cartier Santos Carée Steel is an iconic rectangular sports-dress watch reissuing the original 1904 pilot's timepiece designed for Alberto Santos-Dumont, featuring a stainless steel square case with signature exposed screws, an opaline lacquered dial with black Roman numerals and blued sword hands, a date window at 6 o'clock, and the ultra-thin automatic Caliber 1847 MC movement offering a 42-hour power reserve, ideal for the sophisticated urban professional or collector seeking timeless elegance with versatile wearability.

## Overall Watch Rating: 7.5/10.0

**Material Metric (8.7/10.0)** - Premium stainless steel construction with sapphire crystal and meticulous brushed-polished finishing matches the quality of a Tudor Black Bay.

**Versatility Metric (8.2/10.0)** - Its refined sports-dress profile transitions seamlessly from boardroom to weekend, outperforming most pure dress watches like the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso.

**Rarity Metric (7.2/10.0)** - At around $8,000 retail, its market positioning offers moderate exclusivity similar to an Oris Divers Sixty-Five.

**Movement Metric (6.9/10.0)** - The reliable Caliber 1847 MC provides solid in-house automatic performance on par with a Longines Conquest.

**Functions Metric (4.7/10.0)** - Basic time and date functionality is average for the category, akin to entry-level luxury like a Tag Heuer Formula 1.
