Watch Description
http://www.hamiltonwristwatch.info/Detail%20-%20Oval%20Plain%20-%20Two-tone.htm
The Oval is one of the rarest as well as one of the most desirable models that Hamilton produced. It is a classic example of the geometrically shaped watches that were commonly offered during the mid to late 1920s by Elgin, Illinois and Waltham. However, unlike other commonly shaped watches of the period, the Oval was unique in style, shape and design and, subsequently, is distinctly "Hamilton." Other geometrically shaped Hamiltons include the Cushion, Square, Barrel, Tonneau and Rectangular.
This particular Oval is a "two-tone" version - the bezel and case back are 14K white gold while the center case is 14K green gold.
Two-tone Hamiltons are extremely rare and Hamilton did not maintain production numbers for them. It is believed that they were either "special orders" or were distributed amongst several jewelers in extremely limited quantities. The two-tone Oval Engraved pictured above is one of only six known examples - one is in the Hansen Collection, one is in the Welsh Collection and another two-tone Oval Engraved resides in a prominent West Coast Collection. Three others exist in private collections.
This model was one of six geometrically shaped wristwatches that were popular up until the late 1920's. Hamilton's "Geometric" offerings spanned ten years - beginning in 1917 with the 0-sized Cushion and ending in 1927 with the Oval. Included in the geometric models are the Cushion (0-sized, Cushion Round and Cushion Form Opening), the Square, Barrel, Tonneau, Rectangular, and Oval. All known Hamilton two-tone models, which include the Square Plain and Engraved, the Barrel Plain and Engraved, the Oval Plain and Engraved and the Barrel "B" Engraved were manufactured by the Fahys Watch Case Company and all are solid 14K gold.

A.I. Watch Review:
# Hamilton Oval 1928 14K Review by A.I. WatchMetrics
## Watch Summary
The Hamilton Oval 1928 14K is a exquisite vintage dress watch from circa 1928 featuring a distinctive oval 14 karat yellow gold case with Art Deco flair, targeting collectors and enthusiasts of early 20th-century American horology, highlighted by its elegant two-tone dial, sub-seconds register, and reliable manual-wind Hamilton Caliber 926 movement offering around 42 hours of power reserve.
## Overall Watch Rating: 6.3/10.0
**Material Metric (9.4/10.0)** - The solid 14K yellow gold case with polished and brushed finishes delivers luxury material quality comparable to higher-end vintage gold Omegas.
**Dials & Design Metric (9.0/10.0)** - The graceful oval shape, two-tone dial with applied numerals, and period-appropriate hands create an Art Deco masterpiece that outshines many contemporary minimalist designs.
**History & Innovation Metric (8.1/10.0)** - Rooted in Hamilton's storied railroad accuracy legacy, this 1928 oval introduction exemplifies American watchmaking innovation akin to early Longines milestones.
**Movement Metric (7.9/10.0)** - The 17-jewel Caliber 926 manual wind provides solid vintage reliability and finishing on par with adjusted-grade Swiss ebauches of the era.
**Rarity Metric (6.8/10.0)** - With low surviving examples from limited 1920s production, it offers solid scarcity similar to other niche vintage Hamilton models on the secondary market.
**Versatility Metric (6.5/10.0)** - Suited primarily for formal dress and collector display, it lags behind do-it-all tool watches like modern Seikos for everyday rugged use.
**Brand Metric (6.0/10.0)** - Hamilton upholds its mid-tier heritage reputation with dependable craftsmanship, much like its current Khaki Field series.
**Functions Metric (2.5/10.0)** - Limited to basic hours, minutes, and sub-seconds, it underperforms against multifunction quartz divers at comparable prices.
**Complications Metric (0.5/10.0)** - Pure time-only configuration places it well below even entry-level chronographs from brands like Tissot.
## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0
## WM Collector Grade: C
## Performance Insights: Excels in materials, design aesthetics, history, and movement reliability for vintage appeal, but basic functions and no complications drag it down, providing fair collector value versus its $3800 secondary price.
## TPS Interpretation: Fair Value: The watch offers compelling vintage charm and gold construction with strong heritage at its price, though it lacks modern features expected in this segment.
