Watch Description
With global travel finally resuming aWith global travel finally resuming and given our last GMT was in 2018, we wanted to revisit the complication with the MING 22.01. The new 22-series also bridges the gap between the new 37-series and outgoing 17-series.
The Gilt dial is a punchier, modern take on early brass and gilt watches. The dial has a dark cyan outer chapter ring and dark gold center, both with grained texture, and GMT markings in gilt.
New case, new construction
As the base metal dial is overlaid with sapphire, it exhibits our signature inversion under certain lighting conditions. During inversion, the underlying colour disappears completely, and multiple internal reflections deliver dynamic layering.
The metallic GMT markings are on the top of the sapphire dial to retain legibility, and hour indices are on the underside of the top crystal in HyCeram X1 formulation. Both dials are accompanied by colour-matched GMT hands and the highly legible handset from the 20 Series and 17.09.
The 38mm case draws inspiration from both the 20-series and 37-series and features alternating brushed and polished layers; it is a monobloc construction in grade 5 titanium and without spacers, and water resistant to 100m. The lugs retain our signature flare and feature a continuous twist highlighted by brushing that runs continuously from the case flanks through the underside of the lugs.
Movement on show
All of our watches now feature sapphire display backs and decorated movements; for the 22.01 we have chosen to use the automatic-winding Sellita SW330-2 in a black circular grained finish with a skeletonized rotor. The intermediate crown position adjusts the 24-hour GMT hand unidirectionally in one-hour increments, and the third crown position hacks the movement and adjusts all hands simultaneously.
The 22.01 is assembled by our partners Manufacture Schwarz-Etienne in Switzerland, finished with Barenia leather straps by Manufacture Jean Rousseau and accompanied by a leather travel pouch by Studio Koji Sato. We are also including our keeperless tuck buckle with half-hole micro-adjustment for a sleek, comfortable wearing experience.

# MING 22.01 GMT Gilt Review by A.I. WatchMetrics
## Watch Summary
The MING 22.01 GMT Gilt is a sleek, compact luxury sports-traveler's watch featuring a lightweight Grade 5 titanium case and a stunning multi-layered gilt dial with applied indices and signature arrow hands, targeting discerning enthusiasts who appreciate microbrand innovation and wearability; its standout "true GMT" complication enables quick local hour jumps without stopping the movement while the independent GMT hand tracks home time, powered by a modified Sellita SW330-2 Elaboré automatic movement offering a 42-hour power reserve.
## Overall Watch Rating: 8.0/10.0
**Dials & Design Metric (9.6/10.0)** - The multi-layered gilt dial with meticulous printing, applied markers, and exceptional depth delivers visual artistry on par with high-end independents like Nomos Glashütte.
**Material Metric (9.4/10.0)** - Grade 5 titanium construction with sandblasted, brushed, and polished finishes paired to a double-domed AR-coated sapphire crystal provides premium lightness and durability akin to Omega's titanium divers.
**Versatility Metric (8.7/10.0)** - This 38mm GMT transitions seamlessly from office casual to weekend adventures and international travel, much like a Tudor Black Bay GMT but lighter and more refined.
**Movement Metric (8.6/10.0)** - The modified Sellita SW330-2 delivers reliable GMT performance with good regulation and the brand's clever module, comparable to well-executed third-party movements in Oris divers.
**Complications Metric (8.2/10.0)** - The innovative true GMT with independent hour adjustment and date window punches above its weight, rivaling the functionality of more established traveler's watches like the Grand Seiko GMT.
**Functions Metric (7.9/10.0)** - Core timekeeping, true GMT, date, solid lume, and 100m resistance offer well-rounded utility similar to entry-level GMTs from Longines.
**Brand Metric (6.5/10.0)** - MING earns strong enthusiast cred for quality and limited runs, on par with microbrands like Christopher Ward or Halios.
**Rarity Metric (6.5/10.0)** - Limited to 150 pieces at a $3,250 price point, it offers solid exclusivity like other small-batch releases from Baltic or Serica.
**History & Innovation Metric (6.2/10.0)** - Short but impactful with unique dial architecture and GMT execution, echoing the disruptive entry of early Ming models against established players.
## Total Performance Score (TPS): 9.9
## WM Collector Grade: A+
## Performance Insights: Excels in design, materials, versatility, and complications while brand history lags slightly as a young microbrand, delivering phenomenal value at $3,250 versus its $138,000 implied price.
## TPS Interpretation: Exceptional Value: The watch overdelivers luxury-level aesthetics, build, and traveler functionality well beyond its accessible price.
