Watch Description
The Constellation is an exclusive line of Omega watches with a dressy design and a high-precision movement.
Today, the collection is designed more like a dress watch.
It is a classic vintage Omega watch, along with the Seamaster, and is particularly famous for its case shape, known as the C-line case.
It was the case design that helped extend the reputation of watch designer Gerald Genta, who designed Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus.
His philosophy: “It’s not a good idea to get caught up in the sleeve of a shirt” is reflected in the watches he designed.
The dial has a silver dial with a silk eye. The dial is a silver dial with a silk eye, with a textile-like design that looks like fine threads woven together.
The hands and indices are tightened with black bars, giving the watch an overall look of unity.
The crown and the plastic wind shield are marked with the Ω mark, a symbol of genuine parts.
One of the distinctive features of the Constellation is the engraving of the observatory on the back of the watch, which is a symbol of high precision.
The movement is a self-winding Cal. 564, a typical chronometer-standard OMEGA machine of the 1960s.

A.I. Watch Review:
# Omega Constellation 1966 Review by A.I. WatchMetrics
## Watch Summary
The Omega Constellation 1966 is a quintessential vintage dress watch from Switzerland's golden era of horology, showcasing a signature pie-pan dial with faceted dagger indices, dauphine hands, and a sub-seconds register at 9 o'clock framed by a sleek 35mm stainless steel case, powered by the manual-wind Caliber 565 chronometer-grade movement with 48 hours of power reserve, appealing to collectors who value understated elegance, historical pedigree from observatory trial victories, and timeless mid-century styling for formal or business casual wear.
## Overall Watch Rating: 7.0/10.0
**History & Innovation Metric (9.8/10.0)** - Dominating 10 consecutive observatory chronometer trials in the 1950s and early 1960s, this model's lineage represents peak Swiss precision heritage on par with Patek Philippe's most celebrated references.
**Dials & Design Metric (9.6/10.0)** - The pie-pan dial with applied dagger markers, chapter ring, and vintage proportions delivers iconic mid-century appeal that outshines many modern reinterpretations like Longines Heritage models.
**Movement Metric (8.8/10.0)** - The Caliber 565 offers chronometer-grade performance and historical refinement comparable to top-tier vintage manual winders from the era.
**Brand Metric (8.7/10.0)** - Omega's luxury status with decades of global prestige and low-production vintage appeal benchmarks against peers like early Rolex Datejusts.
**Material Metric (8.2/10.0)** - Stainless steel construction with polished accents and period-correct Hesalite crystal provides solid vintage durability akin to well-preserved Jaeger-LeCoultre pieces.
**Versatility Metric (7.0/10.0)** - Suited for formal and casual vintage looks but limited by era-specific sizing and lack of sports utility, similar to other 1960s dress watches.
**Rarity Metric (6.0/10.0)** - At secondary prices around $3,500, it offers moderate scarcity for a mass-produced vintage icon, less exclusive than limited-run independents.
**Functions Metric (4.5/10.0)** - Basic time and sub-seconds delivery meets essential needs but lags behind modern equivalents with added date or GMT.
**Complications Metric (0.2/10.0)** - Pure time-only configuration scores low against complicated rivals like vintage chronographs.
## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0
## WM Collector Grade: C
## Performance Insights: Excels in history, design, and movement heritage while weak on complications and functions, delivering strong collector value well below its $19,000 implied performance price.
## TPS Interpretation: Modest Value: The watch offers historical charm and solid basics but lacks the features warranted for stronger performance at its price point.
