The Double Red SeaDweller (DRSD) was produced for approximately 10 yrs from 1967 to 1977 with serial number range 1.7 to 5.1 million. There were four different dial variations made in the regular production model with three different case back configurations.

The early version and the most rare is the Mark I dial on a patent pending caseback. These were made in the serial number range of 1.7 to 2.2 million. Mark II dials have also been seen on patent pending models. Patent pending Mark I watches command a pretty significant premium and some have sold for over $100,000.00. Mark II patent pending are also very desirable watches by collectors.

A.I. Watch Review:

# Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller MK3 Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller MK3 is an iconic vintage dive watch from the reference 1665 series produced in the early 1970s, distinguished by its matte black dial with bold red "Sea-Dweller" text above the coronet and red "200m=660ft" below, featuring a helium escape valve for saturation diving, powered by the automatic Caliber 1575 movement with approximately 48 hours of power reserve, appealing to serious Rolex collectors and dive watch enthusiasts seeking historical significance and robust tool-watch performance.

## Overall Watch Rating: 8.6/10.0

**Rarity Metric (9.9/10.0)** - Extreme scarcity due to its vintage status and specific Mark III dial configuration rivals that of low-production modern limited editions from top brands.

**History & Innovation Metric (9.8/10.0)** - As the first serial production dive watch with a helium escape valve developed with COMEX, it revolutionized professional underwater timekeeping like few others.

**Dials & Design Metric (9.8/10.0)** - The perfectly executed double red script on a matte dial with tritium indices sets the gold standard for vintage Rolex aesthetics.

**Movement Metric (9.5/10.0)** - Delivers proven chronometer accuracy and longevity on par with contemporary Rolex calibers in Submariners.

**Cohesiveness Metric (9.5/10.0)** - Seamlessly integrates Rolex's signature Oyster architecture and dive-ready engineering into a singular, purposeful statement.

**Brand Metric (9.1/10.0)** - Rolex's global prestige and enduring craftsmanship position it alongside icons like Audemars Piguet in collector hierarchies.

**Versatility Metric (8.5/10.0)** - Functions admirably as a daily beater or serious dive tool, much like modern Tudor Pelagos models.

**Material Metric (8.0/10.0)** - Robust 316L stainless steel case with signature brushing holds up exceptionally, tempered slightly by the period-correct acrylic crystal versus sapphire peers.

**Functions Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Core dive essentials including date and rotating bezel match those of other classic professional divers like the Omega Seamaster 300.

**Complications Metric (4.0/10.0)** - Limited to a simple date display, it trails far behind multifunction pieces like chronograph-equipped IWC Aquatimers.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0

## WM Collector Grade: C

## Performance Insights: Outstanding rarity, history, design, and movement drive collector appeal, but underwhelming complications and functions relative to price temper overall value against feature-rich modern competitors.

## TPS Interpretation: Modest Value: The watch's legendary status and scarcity provide solid collector merit, though basic specs imply better relative value at lower entry points or in updated iterations.
