Watch Description

Based on a streamlined version of the 256 pilot's chronograph developed for the Japanese market, our 356 series was created in 1996 with the characteristic FLIEGER [PILOT] logo on the matte black dial. With a case diameter of 38.5 mm, it is somewhat smaller, but even more successful in design.

This classically elegant chronograph captures your attention with its clean, esthetic style. There is nothing to distract from the essentials. Everything is designed to ensure accurate reading of the various times. The hour, minute and centrally positioned second hand are skeletonized and coated with special long-lasting, luminous paint, as are the large, clearly readable Arabic numerals.

# Sinn 356 Pilot Chronograph Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Sinn 356 Pilot Chronograph is a robust aviation-inspired tool watch with a sporty pilot style, featuring a bead-blasted stainless steel case, clean black dial with bold white Arabic numerals and triangular indices, three subdials in classic 7750 layout, and a bi-directional rotating bezel option in some variants, targeting serious watch enthusiasts and pilots who appreciate German engineering, legibility, and durability at an accessible luxury price point, powered by the reliable automatic Sellita SW500-1 movement offering 38 hours of power reserve.

## Overall Watch Rating: 8.2/10.0

**Cohesiveness Metric (9.2/10.0)** - The 356 exemplifies Sinn's cohesive pilot watch philosophy with unified tool-watch execution from dial to case finishing, on par with IWC pilots but more attainable.

**Material Metric (9.5/10.0)** - Exceptional use of bead-blasted stainless steel, double-sided AR sapphire crystal, and Sinn's signature Ar-Dehumidifying technology delivers superior durability and clarity, rivaling higher-end tool watches like Omega Seamaster divers.

**Dials & Design Metric (9.0/10.0)** - The matte black dial with Super-LumiNova indices and subdials offers outstanding legibility and classic pilot charm, benchmarked against the superior Breitling Navitimer but with purer aesthetics.

**Movement Metric (8.6/10.0)** - The Sellita SW500-1 automatic chronograph provides dependable performance with column-wheel-like reliability and 25 jewels, scoring similarly to modified ETA 7750s in Hamilton or Oris chronos.

**Complications Metric (8.6/10.0)** - The flyback-capable chronograph with three crisp subdials adds functional depth without clutter, matching the utility of TAG Heuer Carrera chronographs.

**Versatility Metric (8.5/10.0)** - This pilot chrono transitions seamlessly from cockpit to casual wear with interchangeable leather/steel straps and 100m water resistance, more adaptable than dedicated divers like the Seiko Prospex.

**Functions Metric (8.0/10.0)** - Core timekeeping plus date and full chronograph functionality deliver everyday utility, on level with mid-tier autos like the Tissot PRX chronos.

**Brand Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Sinn holds high-premium status for its aviation heritage and innovative treatments, akin to Sinn's peers like Zodiac or Glycine in enthusiast circles.

**History & Innovation Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Rooted in Flieger traditions with modern dehumidifying tech, it builds on Sinn's instrument-making legacy comparable to early Breitling pilots.

**Rarity Metric (7.0/10.0)** - Moderate exclusivity from limited annual production and €3,500 price point positions it rarer than mass Seikos but more available than microbrand one-offs.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 7.1

## WM Collector Grade: B+

## Performance Insights: Excels in materials, design, and complications for robust pilot utility, delivering strong value well below its implied price with reliable movement and versatile appeal.

## TPS Interpretation: Strong Value: The watch outperforms expectations at its price with premium build quality and pilot-specific features ideal for daily tool-watch duties.
