Watch Description
Over the years, we’ve regularly been asked to produce a dive watch which is smaller fitting than the often larger divers available on the market, and following a flurry of recent requests we decided to try to produce a smaller dive watch which is still very legible.
The challenge was, because of the bezel, the dial size on dive watches is often reduced. Despite a case diameter of just 38mm, the visible dial diameter on the Commander is 28mm, which is the same as the dial on the 40mm GMT Master.
With a depth rating of 300 metres and an anti-magnetic cage rated at 20,000 amp metres, this is an ideal sports watch which is also perfectly suitable for more formal occasions.
Supplied in a two watch travelling case with 24 months guarantee.
The Bracelet screws are not fully tightened to allow for easy first-time adjustment.
After sizing please tighten and we suggest using a removable threadlock such as
Loctite Blue 242 to secure the screws.

A.I. Watch Review:
# Smiths Commander Diver Review by A.I. WatchMetrics
## Watch Summary
The Smiths Commander Diver is a heritage-inspired tool dive watch channeling classic British military aesthetics into a modern 42mm stainless steel package with 300m water resistance, unidirectional ceramic bezel, sunray dial with strong C3 lume, and reliable PRS-25 automatic movement offering 38 hours of power reserve, perfectly suited for active divers and adventure enthusiasts seeking affordable quality with historical charm.
## Overall Watch Rating: 6.9/10.0
**Material Metric (9.2/10.0)** - Premium 316L stainless steel construction, double AR-coated sapphire crystal, and ceramic bezel provide exceptional durability and finishing akin to higher-end divers like the Tudor Pelagos.
**Dials & Design Metric (8.8/10.0)** - The sunburst dial with applied indices, sword hands, and generous Super-LumiNova creates a clean, legible, and appealing diver aesthetic comparable to the Christopher Ward C60.
**Versatility Metric (8.3/10.0)** - Excels as a robust sports and adventure watch suitable for diving, daily wear, and casual outings, though less ideal for formal settings like a Rolex Submariner.
**History & Innovation Metric (8.0/10.0)** - Rich British military heritage from WWII-era suppliers combined with modern updates like ceramic bezels gives it strong standing similar to revived marques like Vertex.
**Movement Metric (7.5/10.0)** - The in-house branded PRS-25 automatic based on Sellita SW200 delivers reliable 4Hz performance with hacking seconds, on par with workhorse movements in Oris divers.
**Brand Metric (6.7/10.0)** - Smiths' revival of its 19th-century military legacy as a low-production UK enthusiast brand holds it in good regard, much like Sinn or Doxa in the premium tool watch segment.
**Functions Metric (5.5/10.0)** - Core timekeeping with date and rotating bezel offers solid utility for a diver but lacks extras found in more feature-packed pieces like the Seiko Prospex "Turtle."
**Rarity Metric (5.2/10.0)** - At around $1,900, its limited microbrand production adds moderate exclusivity, though not as scarce as true limited editions from Baltic or Monta.
**Complications Metric (3.0/10.0)** - A basic date window provides minimal complexity, falling short of chronograph or GMT divers like the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf.
## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0
## WM Collector Grade: C
## Performance Insights: Excels in materials, design, and versatility with pro-level build quality, but basic functions and complications temper its scores, delivering solid value well-aligned with its implied price of $1,900.
## TPS Interpretation: Average Value: The watch matches expected performance for its price with reliable tool-watch execution but no standout overachievements.
