Watch Description

Vaer was founded in Venice, California in 2016 by Ryan Torres and Reagan Cook with the goal of building an affordable everyday wristwatch that blended tasteful design with extreme outdoor functionality. We launched the company with our collective lifesavings, and remain independently owned and operated in the United States.

This is the solar-powered version of our top-selling C5 Field Black. Solar provides the best of both worlds - perpetual timekeeping with incredible accuracy. Six hours of sunlight will provide six months of power reserve, and the watch can run off any light source (even candlelight). The C5 Field Black is a military-inspired 10ATM watch, that stands out in the Vaer line-up thanks to its classic field watch design and the distinction as being longest selling product (first launched in 2018). As a C5 model, this watch is part of our all-time bestselling collection, distinguished by its ocean-ready functionality, low-profile case design, strong lume, ultra-accurate solar quartz movement, and full USA assembly.

WHO IS THIS WATCH FOR? We recommend the C5 for those seeking a dependable tool watch that can also be dressed up for more formal occasions. The perpetual timekeeping function of a solar-powered quartz watch makes it the perfect fit for an everyday wearer, and the 40mm case sizing is large enough to command presence on most men's wrists while still maintaining our commitment to ergonomic, and timeless proportions.

INSPIRATION In designing the C5 Field Black our goal was to deliver the perfect modern field watch, something that was modern, legible, and with a sensible splash of color. This watch was our first-ever field watch - and its continual re-stocks, provide evidence of a winning formula. In many ways, the C5 Field forms the foundation of our tool watch collection and is a great option for someone starting a new collection, or looking to simplify the information on their wrist. The C5 Field Solar is further distinguished as one of the first Vaer field watches powered by ambient light - a premium feature that optimizes its use in remote settings and helps deliver on the promise of near-perpetual timekeeping.

A.I. Watch Review:

# Vaer Field Solar Review by A.I. WatchMetrics

## Watch Summary
The Vaer Field Solar is a rugged tool watch in the classic field style, featuring a compact 39mm stainless steel case, highly legible dial with applied indices and Super-LumiNova lume, and a reliable solar quartz movement that charges indefinitely under light exposure with up to 6 months of power reserve in darkness, ideal for outdoor adventurers and daily wearers seeking low-maintenance durability paired with 200m water resistance and a sapphire crystal with dual AR coating.

## Overall Watch Rating: 6.5/10.0

**Material Metric (9.5/10.0)** - Exceptional use of 316L stainless steel, sapphire with dual AR coating, and refined brushing/polishing rivals entry-level luxury divers like the Oris Aquis at a fraction of the cost.
**Versatility Metric (9.0/10.0)** - Highly adaptable for adventure, casual, sports, and tool use thanks to its slim profile, interchangeable straps, and robust 200m rating, outshining many dedicated field watches.
**Dials & Design Metric (8.5/10.0)** - Clean, military-inspired dial with excellent legibility and balanced proportions scores similarly to Hamilton's Khaki Field series but with superior lume and finishing.
**Movement Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Solar quartz delivers quartz accuracy and endless reliability without winding, performing on par with Citizen Eco-Drive movements in premium tool watches.
**Brand Metric (6.5/10.0)** - Vaer holds strong high-premium status as a U.S. microbrand with enthusiast appeal and low production, comparable to Sinn or Christopher Ward in build quality.
**Rarity Metric (4.7/10.0)** - Moderate rarity from its accessible price and limited microbrand output places it between mass-produced Seikos and true limited editions.
**Functions Metric (4.7/10.0)** - Basic timekeeping with date provides everyday utility akin to standard field watches, without advanced features.
**History & Innovation Metric (4.0/10.0)** - Niche appeal as a modern solar field watch from a young brand lacks deep heritage but offers practical innovation like Marathon GSAR.
**Complications Metric (3.9/10.0)** - Simple date window delivers minimal added function, on par with entry-level quartz models.

## Total Performance Score (TPS): 5.2

## WM Collector Grade: A+

## Performance Insights: Excels in material quality, versatility, and movement efficiency while offering tremendous value well above its $429 price versus an implied $1,850 for equivalent performance.

## TPS Interpretation: Exceptional Value: The watch significantly overdelivers on premium materials and tool-watch prowess relative to its affordable price point.
