Watch Description
The first chronograph wristwatch to feature an opening on the dial to exhibit the beating heart of the movement, the Chronomaster El Primero Open has become something of a modern icon among chronographs.
Zenith was the first Manufacture to partially reveal the beating heart of the movement through an opening on the dial. The El Primero EP4061 is an upgraded version of the original El Primero automatic high-frequency chronograph calibre, fitted with a silicon escape wheel and pallet lever that require no lubrication.

# Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Open Heart Review by A.I. WatchMetrics
## Watch Summary
The Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Open Heart is a sport-luxury chronograph blending vintage-inspired design with modern performance, featuring a 42mm stainless steel case, a captivating open-heart dial at 12 o'clock revealing the high-beat El Primero movement's balance wheel, tri-compax layout with small seconds at 9, 30-minute counter at 3, and 12-hour at 6, ideal for discerning collectors and enthusiasts who value horological heritage and precision timing in a versatile daily wearer.
## Overall Watch Rating: 8.8/10.0
**Movement Metric (9.5/10.0)** - The legendary El Primero automatic chronograph with 36,000 vph beat rate and flyback capability rivals top-tier movements like Omega's 9300 for precision and innovation.
**History & Innovation Metric (9.3/10.0)** - Zenith's pioneering role in the first automatic chronograph since 1969 gives it an edge over modern newcomers, cementing its place in watch history.
**Dials & Design Metric (9.1/10.0)** - The open-heart reveal and tricolor sub-dials deliver timeless appeal comparable to a Rolex Daytona but with more visible mechanical artistry.
**Material Metric (9.0/10.0)** - Premium stainless steel with sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel accents match the build quality of a Grand Seiko, ensuring durability and luster.
**Brand Metric (8.7/10.0)** - Zenith holds strong luxury status akin to Omega, bolstered by its heritage without reaching Patek-level exclusivity.
**Versatility Metric (8.6/10.0)** - This chronograph transitions seamlessly from boardroom to trackside, outperforming niche divers like the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms in everyday adaptability.
**Complications Metric (8.5/10.0)** - The integrated chronograph with 1/10th-second precision benchmarks well against IWC's Portugieser but shines in open-heart drama.
**Functions Metric (8.2/10.0)** - Core timekeeping plus robust chronograph functions provide more utility than a simple three-hander like the Datejust.
**Rarity Metric (7.4/10.0)** - At its price point, it offers better exclusivity than mass-produced Seikos but trails limited Rolex models in scarcity.
## Total Performance Score (TPS): 7.8
## WM Collector Grade: A-
## Performance Insights: Strong movement, history, and design drive high scores, delivering exceptional value against its $9,300 implied price equivalent.
## TPS Interpretation: Strong Value: The watch exceeds expectations with premium heritage and performance well beyond its market positioning.
