Collector Description

Flexing my current collection.

The Laureato Copper Dial is one of those watches that always holds my attention when looking at it. Such an incredible dial which is 10x better in person. The way it plays with the light and takes on different hues in different lighting conditions is mesmerising.

The Santos is... the Santos. An iconic daily driver. In some ways, I would prefer a different dial Santos but I do like their black/grey dial ones and for me it's also the coolest and most wearable, it carries a very sporty and stylish vibe when used with the rubber strap.

My next item will likely be a Day Date or a JLC Calendar, perhaps a vintage AP Calendar.

Anyone else here appreciate GP? For me, it was really just this dial that I couldn't say no to. I kept returning to it and every time I looked at it I fell in love. I know it's not the most economically sensible purchase currently (although I got this "like-new" watch for 4 figures below retail) and I know it is quite a niche brand (even if it's very highly regarded as haute horology) but watches aren't investments anyway and you may as well get what you love. It's also a benefit that it looks valuable while not being a brand that 99% of people will know, even the muggers. That said, if anyone has ever tried reselling a Laureato, I'd be keen to hear how that went! haha

A.I. Collection Review:
# 2 Watch Collection - Girard Perregaux (50%) / Cartier (50%) Review by A.I. WatchMetrics ## Collection Summary This duo showcases refined luxury sports watches with integrated bracelets, pairing the angular Girard-Perregaux Laureato 38mm's vibrant copper sunray dial and bold geometry with the iconic square Cartier Santos de Cartier's stealthy steel-and-black ADLC finish, both powered by automatic in-house movements with approximately 42-hour power reserves, perfect for collectors prioritizing heritage, daily wearability, and understated prestige. **"Angular Luxury Sports Duo"** ## Overall Collection Rating: 7.6/10.0 **Brand Metric (8.6/10.0)** - Girard-Perregaux and Cartier deliver renowned luxury prestige on par with Omega or Grand Seiko, blending heritage mastery with accessible high-end appeal. **Dials & Design Metric (9.0/10.0)** - The copper sunray dial on the Laureato and the Santos' elegant blacked-out iconicity offer standout visual sophistication exceeding typical Tudor Black Bay aesthetics. **Material Metric (8.8/10.0)** - Premium stainless steel cases with sapphire crystals, AR coatings, and ADLC treatments provide exceptional durability and finishing rivaling higher-end Zenith Defy models. **Versatility Metric (8.7/10.0)** - Both pieces transition seamlessly from boardroom to weekend adventures, outperforming dedicated tool watches like the Omega Seamaster in everyday adaptability. **Cohesiveness Metric (8.5/10.0)** - Strong thematic unity in luxury integrated sports styling creates a cohesive set more harmonious than mismatched Seiko-Hamilton pairings. **Movement Metric (8.3/10.0)** - In-house automatics like the GP01800 and 1847 MC offer reliable performance and finishing superior to standard ETA-powered mid-tier options. **Rarity Metric (7.6/10.0)** - At $8,300–$14,900 pricing with limited production runs, these outshine mass-produced Hamilton Khakis in exclusivity without entering ultra-rare territory. **History & Innovation Metric (7.4/10.0)** - Deep legacies—the Santos as an aviation pioneer and GP's tourbillon heritage—elevate it above conventional Tissot PRX innovation levels. **Functions Metric (5.2/10.0)** - Basic time-and-date functionality matches everyday needs but trails multifunction pieces like the Longines Spirit Zulu Time. **Complications Metric (4.0/10.0)** - Simple date windows provide minimal added utility compared to chronograph-equipped Tag Heuer Carreras. ## Total Performance Score (TPS): 9.9 ## TPS Interpretation: Exceptional Value: The collection dramatically exceeds performance expectations for its average $11,600 price, blending elite design and heritage at a relative bargain. ## WM Collector Grade: A+ ## Performance Insights: Excels in dials, materials, brand, and cohesion for a polished luxury vibe, tempered by basic functions; punches well above its price for savvy collectors. ## Collection Type by Style - Sports (60%) - Luxury (30%) - Casual (10%) ## Collection Type by Movement - Automatic (100%) ## Collection Strengths - Iconic luxury designs with unique dials (copper sunray and blacked-out Santos) that demand attention. - Integrated bracelets and 100m water resistance for versatile, comfortable all-day wear. - In-house movements from prestigious maisons ensuring superior build quality and longevity. - Perfect balance of boldness and elegance in a compact, high-impact duo. ## Ideas for Improvement 1. Introduce a chronograph or GMT complication to boost functional depth without sacrificing style. 2. Add a slimmer dress watch for formal occasions to expand wardrobe coverage. 3. Incorporate a high-beat or silicon-regulated movement for enhanced precision and modernity. ## Downsizing Advice This tight-knit pair complements each other ideally with no overlaps in design or vibe—retain both as core pieces, as selling either would dilute the luxury sports theme without gaining much space or funds given their strong secondary value. ## Watch by Watch Summary **Girard Perregaux Laureato 38mm Copper**: The 38mm steel case with copper sunray dial and GP01800 movement delivers a fresh, angular take on luxury sports in a wearable size ideal for smaller wrists. **Cartier de Santos (Steel and ADLC Black)**: The black ADLC-coated Santos de Cartier exudes stealthy sophistication through its square case and 1847 MC caliber, blending aviation heritage with modern edge. **A.I.
