Collector Description

My trio one year after entering this rabbit hole.

IWC Spitfire Automatic: I was looking for a GADA watch that would scratch my field watch itch. It's incredibly legible, I like the 39mm sizimg, and everything about the dial is simple, but done perfectly. This gets the most wear.

Tudor Pelagos 39: My most recent pick up. I wanted a dive watch and had my eye on this for a while. I like the all brushed tool watch look. The sizing and proportions are excellent and the titanium is light and dissapears on the wrist. I think this will split wear with the Spitfire.

Longines Conquest 38mm Green Dial: My wife bought me this watch for our wedding so it has a lot of sentimental value. Its dial is gorgeous and dresses up well with leather. Due to the amount of polished surfaces, this is my "nice occasion" watch.

How I got here: I got engaged a year and a half ago and wanted to get a nice watch for the wedding, then fell hard down the automatic/luxury watch rabbit hole. The first watch I bought was an Omega Railmaster - its a great watch and has an amazing movement, but I couldnt fall in love with it. The dial isnt very legible, especially in direct sunlight, and the porportions were a little off for me. I still have it but planning on selling, so I didnt include it. I bought a couple other mid-range watches that also didnt do much for me, so im planning on selling them too.

After about a year, I'm happy with the current three watch collection and will be content for a while.

TL;DR: wasted a bunch of money in my first foray into watches, but landed on this two tool watches and one fancier watch collection. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

A.I. Collection Review:
# 3 Watch Collection - IWC (33%) / Longines (33%) / Tudor (33%) Review by A.I. WatchMetrics ## Collection Summary This three-watch lineup combines the refined sporty elegance of the Longines Conquest, the legendary aviation heritage of the IWC Pilot Spitfire, and the robust modern tooling of the Tudor Pelagos 39, creating a versatile ensemble of high-quality mechanical pieces ideal for the discerning collector balancing daily wear with adventure-ready reliability. **"Premium Heritage Tool Trio"** ## Overall Collection Rating: 7.4/10.0 **Material Metric (9.0/10.0)** - Premium Grade 2 titanium on the Pelagos 39 paired with 904L-equivalent steel cases and double-sided AR sapphire crystals across the set rivals the material specs of current Omega Seamaster divers. **Dials & Design Metric (8.7/10.0)** - Striking chapter ring dials, iconic pilot numerals on the IWC, and clean sunburst finishes deliver standout legibility and style akin to benchmark Sinn instrument watches. **Versatility Metric (8.5/10.0)** - From office-appropriate Conquest elegance to Spitfire pilot formality and Pelagos dive capability, the set covers casual, professional, and active scenarios better than most Hamilton field collections. **Cohesiveness Metric (8.0/10.0)** - A unified tool-watch theme ties premium mechanics and durable builds together seamlessly, much like a curated Oris rescue timer lineup. **Movement Metric (7.8/10.0)** - Solid in-house calibers from IWC and Tudor with 70-120 hour reserves complement the reliable Longines automatic, on par with Christopher Ward's C60 lineup reliability. **History & Innovation Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Deep pilot legacy from IWC anchors the group alongside Tudor's dive evolution and Longines' classic sport roots, comparable to a mid-tier Breitling Aerospace set. **Brand Metric (7.3/10.0)** - Mixing entry luxury from Tudor and IWC with mid-tier Longines heritage provides strong prestige value similar to a balanced Tag Heuer Aquaracer assortment. **Functions Metric (6.2/10.0)** - Core timekeeping with date and unidirectional bezel utility performs adequately but trails multi-function sets like the Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive. **Rarity Metric (5.8/10.0)** - Secondary market pricing around $2k-$4k reflects accessible production volumes, on par with common Hamilton Khaki models. **Complications Metric (5.2/10.0)** - Basic date windows dominate without advanced features, matching entry-level Tissot PRX simplicity. ## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0 ## TPS Interpretation: Average Value: The collection aligns with price expectations through excellent materials and design, tempered by straightforward functions and complications. ## WM Collector Grade: C+ ## Performance Insights: Excels in materials, dials & design, versatility, and cohesiveness while rarity and complications remain average; delivers fair value near its implied price of approximately $2,800. ## Collection Type by Style Tool-dominant with strong Pilot (IWC Spitfire), Diver (Tudor Pelagos 39), and Sports (Longines Conquest) representation, offering broad adventure-to-daily appeal. ## Collection Type by Movement Fully mechanical automatic, emphasizing in-house (IWC cal. 32111, Tudor MT5400) and modified ETA-based (Longines L888) powerhouses with 70-120 hour reserves. ## Collection Strengths - Exceptional material breadth from titanium to AR-coated sapphire, ensuring lightweight durability. - High versatility spanning pilot, sports, and dive roles for all-occasion wear. - Cohesive premium tooling theme with reliable mechanics and heritage appeal. - Strong value in secondary market pricing for the quality level. ## Ideas for Improvement 1. Incorporate a chronograph like an Oris or Sinn for timing functions and added excitement. 2. Add a formal dress watch to expand beyond tool styles for black-tie versatility. 3. Include a microbrand or vintage piece to boost rarity and uniqueness. ## Downsizing Advice If reducing to two watches, retain the IWC Pilot Spitfire for its unmatched aviation icon status and the Tudor Pelagos 39 for superior dive tooling, as the Longines Conquest's sporty role overlaps somewhat but lacks the specialized edge. ## Watch by Watch Summary **Longines Conquest:** Elegant 41mm steel automatic with clean dial and solid 72-hour reserve, perfect for versatile daily sports wear. **IWC Pilot Spitfire:** Iconic 41mm pilot with in-house 120-hour movement, soft-iron cage, and chapter ring dial, a heritage standout. **Tudor Pelagos 39:** 39mm titanium diver boasting 200m WR, COSC 70-hour MT5400, and ceramic bezel, the ultimate lightweight tool watch. **A.I.
