Collector Description

[SOTC] I love my little collection but I can’t help but feel some days that something is missing

I in no way want to diminish what I’ve already collected, but when I look at it as a whole, there are some days I just feel like I don’t have the right watch for the occasion.

The Vaer is exclusively my work watch, as I’m pretty rough on watches at work.

The Pelagos FXD, despite being the most expensive piece in the collection, was a bit of an impulse buy. I popped to an AD at a mall while shopping for other stuff, it caught my eye and once I tried it on I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Its what I wear most outside of work. It works for that, being titanium and with the straps it came with, but sometimes it feels out of place.

The Maen mostly serves as my dress watch, which it accomplishes admirably at its case diameter and thickness. Unobtrusive, but striking.

The BCPD is probably my least worn. It just feels the least versatile. It’s technically a field watch, but I could never wear it like that. It’s not super dressy, either. And I reach for the Pelagos more than I reach for it. I ordered a bracelet for it, hoping that changes my view of it.

All that being said, when I window shop I really have a hard time finding anything that stands out as that quintessential “hole-filler.”

A.I. Collection Review:
# 4 Watch Collection - Tudor (25%) / Maen (25%) / Oris (25%) / Vaer (25%) Review by A.I. WatchMetrics ## Collection Summary This eclectic quartet blends accessible luxury with microbrand ingenuity, focusing on robust tool watches for adventure and daily wear—Tudor's pro-grade diver anchors the set, complemented by Oris' heritage pilot, Maen's slim minimalist, and Vaer's no-fuss solar field piece—ideal for the pragmatic collector prioritizing durability, legibility, and bang-for-buck across wet, rugged, and casual scenarios with mostly automatic movements offering 38-70 hours of power reserve. **"Versatile Tool Watch Quartet"** ## Overall Collection Rating: 6.4/10.0 **Brand Metric (6.1/10.0)** - Blending entry-level luxury from Tudor and Oris with enthusiast micros Maen and Vaer hits above mid-tier Seiko or Citizen collections but lacks upper-echelon prestige. **History & Innovation Metric (5.2/10.0)** - Oris' iconic Big Crown pointer date carries notable heritage, bolstered by Tudor's modern titanium advancements, though micros add little beyond contemporary execution like typical Hamilton assortments. **Rarity Metric (4.3/10.0)** - Spanning common $340 field watches to scarcer $4,100 titanium divers yields everyday accessibility on par with standard Tissot PRX sets rather than limited-edition runs. **Material Metric (8.1/10.0)** - Titanium case and ceramic bezel on Tudor elevate sapphire-clad steel builds across the board to levels rivaling higher-end Oris Aquis collections. **Movement Metric (7.3/10.0)** - Tudor's in-house COSC with 70-hour reserve outshines reliable Miyota, Sellita, and solar quartz workhorses, surpassing average Christopher Ward groupings. **Complications Metric (3.2/10.0)** - Sole pointer date on Oris provides minimal added utility, falling short of even basic Longines or Nomos complication spreads. **Functions Metric (6.1/10.0)** - Standard time-plus-date (or none) delivers solid basics akin to Seiko 5 Sports lineups without standout multifunctionality. **Dials & Design Metric (7.7/10.0)** - Military FXD aesthetics, minimalist Maen refinement, pointer heritage, and tactical field vibes create compelling variety like a curated Baltic or Nivada Grenchen stack. **Versatility Metric (8.3/10.0)** - Seamless crossover from desk to dive or trail outperforms dive-only or dress-heavy collections such as full Rolex Submariner sets. **Cohesiveness Metric (7.4/10.0)** - Strong tool-watch theme binds diverse brands and sizes effectively, mirroring the unity in Sinn or Zodiac adventure assortments. ## Collection Type by Style - Dive/Tool (25%): Tudor Pelagos FXD - Field/Adventure (50%): Maen 38 MK4, Vaer C5 Tactical Field Solar - Pilot/Aviation (25%): Oris Big Crown Pointer Date ## Collection Type by Movement - Automatic (75%): Tudor MT5602-COS2 (70h), Maen Miyota 9015 (42h), Oris Sellita SW200-1 (38h) - Quartz Solar (25%): Vaer Epson VS-22 (solar infinite) ## Collection Strengths - Superior materials and finishing, with titanium, sapphire, and lume excellence for long-term reliability. - Exceptional everyday versatility across work, play, and adventure without weak links. - Smart price diversity offering luxury thrills alongside budget-proof utility. ## Ideas for Improvement 1. Add a GMT or world timer to enhance travel functionality and broaden appeal. 2. Incorporate a slim dress watch for formal occasions to balance the tool-heavy focus. 3. Upgrade to a chronograph for timing sports or professional tasks. ## Downsizing Advice Prioritize keeping the Tudor Pelagos FXD for its premium specs and resale strength, plus the Vaer C5 for carefree solar toughness; consider parting with the Maen 38 and Oris Pointer Date if streamlining to two, as they overlap in casual field/pilot roles and could fund a higher-complication upgrade. ## Watch by Watch Summary **Tudor Pelagos FXD**: Pro-level titanium diver with COSC movement, fixed bezel, and 200m resistance shines as the collection's high-end hero. **Maen 38 MK4 M1.1.2**: Ultra-slim 38mm minimalist automatic offers refined daily comfort with strong lume and 100m capability. **Oris Big Crown Pointer Date**: Heritage-laden 40mm pilot with signature pointer date complication brings aviation charm and solid build. **Vaer C5 Tactical Field Solar**: Bombproof 39mm solar quartz field watch delivers infinite power and tactical edge at entry-level pricing. ## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0 ## TPS Interpretation: Fair Value: The collection aligns with expected performance for its $1,542 average price point, providing reliable tool-watch utility without major over- or under-delivery. ## WM Collector Grade: C ## Performance Insights: Dominates in materials, versatility, and design cohesion but underwhelms on complications and history; punches slightly above weight versus an implied $1,900 equivalent price. **A.I.
