Turning 30, Reflecting on my Watch Journey

I recently ran across watch Reddit past few months and love hearing others' insights, seeing others' collections, and learning more about timepieces. As I’m about to hit 30 in a few months, I wanted to share my SOTC especially since I've only been seriously into watches for the past 2-3 years. It all started as a casual interest when my parents gifted me a watch and it quickly turned into a full-blown passion (or obsession, depending on who you ask).

Looking at what I've gathered so far, I’m starting to realize that my most recent purchase, an A. Lange, might be a sign that it's time to slow down and enjoy what I’ve got before making another big leap (psychologically – I feel a bit of guilt for purchasing such an expensive piece; even though it's a comfortable purchase objectively).

Here’s a quick tour of what’s in the box:

Breitling Premier B01 "Panda": My first luxury watch purchase 2 years ago. My father had a Navitimer and few others so I naturally first went towards Breitling. I wore the Panda a lot the first year, but its write time has decreased as my taste has evolved and as I've gotten more pieces. I love that it’s sporty and versatile. Actually looking to move this piece - you can find it here.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch: No collection feels complete without a Speedy, right? My cousin had recently gotten a Moonswatch and I first learned about Speedy's 2 years ago. The minute I learned about the history, I was hooked. Bought it during a layover internationally. This is a favorite and a regular on my wrist every week.

  1. A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down: My most recent and significant addition. I fell in love with the craftsmanship and elegance of Lange. I dove deep into learning about their movemens, finishing, etc. So much to the point that I ordered a Loupe and can't wait to look more closely at the movement in a couple days. This piece is nothing short of stunning. It’s made me realize I might need to pace myself—both in terms of finances and in appreciating the watches I already have!
  2. Cartier Santos Dumont: I had been eying a Tank for a while before I was in Monaco for vacation. I then walked into a showroom and fell in love with the Dumont. This duo-tone Santos Dumont is on a dark-blue leather band by Cartier. Out of all of my watches, this piece gets the most compliments interestingly enough. I also love dressing this up and dressing it down. Another regular!

Raymond Weil: The watch that started it all! My parents gifted this when I came out of college. Simple and still elegant. Reminder of where I began – both in my watch journey, but also in the start of my entrepreneurship journey.

Casio F-91W: The ultimate beater. I picked this up for nostalgia's sake, and it’s fun to throw on and I actually love the aesthetic of it. I used to rock an Apple Watch a ton, but made the switch to Whoop to accomodate more interesting watches. I wear this at the gym a ton to time sets and also for casual everyday wear if I know I'll be out and about.

Moonswatch "White Side of the Moon": This one’s probably the most polarizing in the collection. It’s bold, it’s bright, and a bit much for me in hindsight. I mainly got this because of the Snoopy in it. Want to get a true Omega Snoopy Speedy, but seems impossible to get unless on the grey market. I'd love suggestions on straps for this because otherwise, it is a bit too chunky with the Nato velcro strap.

Looking back, it's been a crazy journey. If you told me that I'd spend as much $$$ as I have had on watches, I'd tell you I was crazy. That being said, I couldn’t be happier with how my collection has shaped up. I'd love to hear suggestions on what you think I could add to my collection in future years. Currently on a waitlist with my AD for a Pepsi GMT. Besides that, I think the next couple of years might be about slowing down, wearing what I have, and really appreciating each piece. Also taking a break financially to positively adjust my watch collection as a smaller and smaller % of my networth lol. Maybe even passing on a few to make room for something new down the line.

Thanks for letting me share, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice as I approach this next decade of life—and watch collecting!

A.I. Collection Review:
# 8 Watch Collection - A. Lange & Söhne (12%) / Breitling (12%) / Cartier (12%) / Casio (12%) / Moonswatch (12%) / Omega (12%) / Raymond Weil (12%) / Seiko (12%) Review by A.I. WatchMetrics ## Collection Summary This eclectic 8-watch collection spans the horological spectrum from the pinnacle of German haute horology in the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down to the minimalist digital reliability of the Casio F91W, featuring robust luxury chronographs from Breitling and Omega, refined dress watches from Cartier and Raymond Weil, a creative cocktail-inspired Seiko Presage, and playful affordable homages like the Moonswatch moonphase, appealing to a versatile collector who values diversity over uniformity across budgets and eras. **"Eclectic Luxury-Beater Spectrum"** ## Overall Collection Rating: 6.3/10.0 **Brand Metric (6.3/10.0)** - Blending high-end names like A. Lange & Söhne with accessible ones like Casio and Seiko yields mid-tier prestige, comparable to a Hamilton and Tissot assortment. **History & Innovation Metric (7.2/10.0)** - Iconic standouts like the Omega Moonwatch and Casio F91W, paired with A. Lange & Söhne craftsmanship, exceed the heritage of a typical Seiko Prospex lineup. **Rarity Metric (5.1/10.0)** - From scarce $25k gold Lange to mass-produced Casio, the average scarcity aligns with a standard $5,000 mid-range watch. **Material Metric (7.1/10.0)** - Sapphire crystals and gold cases in luxury models lift the diverse materials from resin basics, matching an Oris collection's quality. **Movement Metric (6.9/10.0)** - In-house chronos from Breitling and Omega, alongside reliable quartz, deliver above-average motivity like a Christopher Ward set. **Complications Metric (5.1/10.0)** - Chronographs and moonphases offer decent variety, on par with a Tudor Black Bay grouping. **Functions Metric (5.8/10.0)** - Essential timekeeping with chronos and alarms hits average utility, similar to a Citizen Eco-Drive ensemble. **Dials & Design Metric (7.8/10.0)** - Unique dials like Seiko's matcha and A. Lange & Söhne guilloché provide standout appeal beyond mid-tier norms. **Versatility Metric (8.0/10.0)** - Covering formal dress, sports timing, and daily digital beats handles occasions better than a single-style diver stack. **Cohesiveness Metric (3.5/10.0)** - Vast differences in price, style, and origin undermine unity, falling short of a focused Rolex or Seiko collection. ## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0 ## TPS Interpretation: Fair Value: The collection beats expectations in history, design, and complications but lags in cohesion and functions at its average price point. ## WM Collector Grade: C ## Performance Insights: Shines in versatility, dials/design, and history from diverse icons, but poor cohesion across the price chasm yields average value versus the $5,500 implied price. ## Collection Type by Style Dress and formal watches dominate at 50% (A. Lange & Söhne 1815, Cartier Santos Dumont, Raymond Weil Maestro, Seiko Presage), complemented by sports chronographs (25%: Breitling Premier, Omega Moonwatch) and casual/tool pieces (25%: Moonswatch, Casio F91W). ## Collection Type by Movement Automatic movements lead at 62.5% (Breitling B01 chrono, Omega 3861 chrono, Seiko 6R35, Raymond Weil automatic), followed by quartz at 37.5% (Cartier quartz, Moonswatch quartz moonphase, Casio digital), with one manual winder (A. Lange & Söhne). ## Collection Strengths - High-end anchors like A. Lange & Söhne and Omega provide prestige, precision, and resale strength. - Exceptional versatility suits every lifestyle from boardroom to beater duties. - Iconic designs and cultural hits (Moonwatch, F91W) offer strong collector storytelling. ## Ideas for Improvement 1. Adopt a central theme like chronographs or dress watches to enhance visual and functional harmony. 2. Swap entry-level quartz for mid-tier automatics to raise the quality floor without losing diversity. 3. Incorporate more shared elements, such as consistent complications or color palettes, for better flow. ## Downsizing Advice Retain the top tier—A. Lange & Söhne, Omega Moonwatch, Breitling Premier—for their superior performance and value; sell the Casio F91W and Moonswatch to streamline unless they hold personal significance, as they weaken cohesion; keep one dress and one affordable for balance if downsizing to four. ## Watch by Watch Summary - Breitling Premier B01 Chronograph 42mm AB0118221G1P2: Refined steel chrono with in-house automatic delivers aviation-inspired elegance. - Omega Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 42 Mm: Legendary Speedmaster evolves with METAS-certified precision and moon heritage. - A. Lange Söhne 1815 Up Down Gold: Exquisite rose gold manual showcases Saxon finishing and power reserve artistry. - Cartier Santos Dumont Two Tone Large: Art Deco two-tone quartz adds sophisticated rectangular flair. - Seiko Presage Cocktail Star Bar Matcha: Lush green sunburst dial evokes matcha cocktail vibes in a sharp automatic. - Raymond Weil Maestro Tradition 2837: Understated automatic dress watch offers timeless tradition. - Moonswatch Mission to the Moonphase Full Moon: Bioceramic quartz homage brings accessible lunar complications. - Casio F91W-1: Ultra-light digital icon excels in rugged, no-nonsense utility. **A.I.
