Collector Description

I thought I’d share my current collection with you all. I currently have a one-in, one-out policy, and with 8 watches, they all get a decent amount of wrist time. From the top left clockwise:

Rolex Yachtmaster: I’ve always loved the gold and black combo, especially with the pop of red on the dial, but the two tone bracelet can be a bit much sometimes, so I usually wear it on an Everest rubber or leather strap.

Zenith El Primero Original 1969: I’ve always loved the rich history of the brand and their movements. It’s perfect for a casual night out with jeans/tee shirt.

CWC Mellor 72: Another watch with great history, it scratched the mechanical itch for me. I love the cushion case and throwback design.

IWC 36: I’ve had difficulty finding the right IWC due to the lug length and the fact that my wrist is fairly small. The 36 really just fits perfectly, and the dial is sunburst and very radiant in person.

Rolex OP 34: This is the 114200 with a champagne colored dial. The dimensions on this model make it closer to a 35/36 and it really fits perfectly as compared to other 34mm and 36mm models that I’ve tried on.

Zodiac Automatic (1950s): Vintage piece with the original box and papers from 70 years ago. It gets by far the most compliments of any watch that I wear.

Tudor BB58: I think enough has been said about this watch over time. It works really well on an Artem Sailcloth strap as well.

Seiko SKX013: The first watch I bought in this collection. The 007 was just too big, but this model really suits my wrist well.

A.I. Collection Review:
# 8 Watch Collection - Rolex (25%) / Zenith (13%) / CWC (13%) / IWC (13%) / Seiko (13%) / Tudor (13%) / Zodiac (13%) Review by A.I. WatchMetrics ## Collection Summary This eclectic 8-watch collection leans heavily into rugged tool watches with a luxury bent, blending iconic divers, pilots, chronographs, and sports models from heritage brands like Rolex and Zenith with accessible workhorses from Seiko and CWC, primarily powered by automatic movements offering 40-70 hours of power reserve, ideal for an active enthusiast collector seeking versatile daily beaters with prestige and history rather than perfect uniformity. **"Eclectic Luxury Tool Trove"** ## Overall Collection Rating: 7.4/10.0 **Versatility Metric (8.7/10.0)** - Spans divers, pilots, chronos, and casual pieces for unmatched occasion coverage, surpassing the flexibility of a standard Tudor Black Bay collection. **Dials & Design Metric (8.3/10.0)** - Unique chocolate dial on the Yacht-Master and clean pilot aesthetics stand out with strong visual appeal, elevating it above typical Hamilton Khaki assortments. **Movement Metric (8.2/10.0)** - Features high-end in-house calibers like Zenith's El Primero and Rolex 3135 alongside reliable Sellita and 7S26, outperforming the average Seiko 5 lineup. **History & Innovation Metric (8.1/10.0)** - Packed with trailblazers like the first automatic chronograph from Zenith and Rolex's Oyster case legacy, rivaling dedicated vintage collections. **Material Metric (7.9/10.0)** - Solid sapphire crystals and steel cases dominate with two-tone gold accents and possible 18k elements, matching Oris Aquis quality at this level. **Brand Metric (7.3/10.0)** - Rolex anchors a mix of entry-luxury (Tudor, IWC) and mid-tier (Seiko, CWC) names, stronger than a pure Citizen or Timex ensemble. **Rarity Metric (6.8/10.0)** - Chocolate Yacht-Master and Mellor-72 reissue add scarcity amid common divers like the BB58, comparable to a mid-range Chrono24 secondary mix. **Cohesiveness Metric (6.7/10.0)** - Tool watch theme ties it together despite brand and style diversity, better than a random fashion assortment but not as unified as an all-Rolex set. **Functions Metric (6.2/10.0)** - Basic time/date with one chronograph falls short of expected utility for the price, akin to entry-level Tissot PRX capabilities. **Complications Metric (5.8/10.0)** - Limited to Zenith's chrono amid mostly three-handers, average for non-haute collections like Omega Seamaster groups. ## Total Performance Score (TPS): 4.0 ## TPS Interpretation: Modest Value: The collection delivers strong design and heritage but underdelivers on functions and complications relative to its average $4,600 price point. ## WM Collector Grade: C ## Performance Insights: Shines in versatility, movements, and dials for broad appeal and enthusiast joy, though lower functions and cohesiveness temper value against the $4,600 implied average price. ## Collection Type by Style - **Diver/Tool**: Seiko SKX013, CWC Mellor-72, Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight, Zodiac Automatic 18k (4 watches) - **Pilot**: IWC Pilot's Automatic 36 (1 watch) - **Sports/Yacht**: Rolex Yacht-Master Two-Tone Chocolate (1 watch) - **Chronograph/Sports**: Zenith Chronomaster Original (1 watch) - **Casual/Dress-Sport**: Rolex Oyster Perpetual 34 (1 watch) ## Collection Type by Movement - **Automatic/Mechanical**: All 8 watches (Rolex cal. 3135/3235, Zenith El Primero 3600, Tudor MT5402, IWC 32111, Seiko 7S26, CWC Sellita SW200-1, Zodiac automatic base, Rolex OP cal. 2232) - **In-House/Proprietary**: 4 (Rolex, Zenith, Tudor, IWC) - **Third-Party/Modified**: 4 (Seiko, CWC, Zodiac, secondary Rolex) ## Collection Strengths - Exceptional brand prestige led by dual Rolex pieces, providing instant recognition and resale stability. - Broad versatility across work, sport, and adventure scenarios, with no major gaps in daily usability. - High movement quality averaging reliable in-house automatics, punching above mid-tier benchmarks. ## Ideas for Improvement 1. Add a slim dress watch (e.g., Nomos or JLC) to complement the tool-heavy focus and expand formal versatility. 2. Incorporate a GMT or world timer for travel functionality, enhancing the adventure theme. 3. Seek more unified case sizes (aim 38-42mm) to improve wearability and visual harmony. ## Downsizing Advice At 8 watches, this collection risks redundancy in the diver segment; prioritize downsizing to 5 by retaining the two Rolex anchors, Zenith chrono for complication depth, IWC pilot for aviation flair, and Tudor BB58 for value dive representation—sell the Seiko SKX013, CWC Mellor-72, and Zodiac to fund upgrades while preserving 80% of prestige and variety. ## Watch by Watch Summary - **Rolex Yacht-Master Two-Tone Chocolate (15850)**: Luxurious two-tone sports watch with signature chocolate dial, ideal for yachting elegance. - **Zenith Chronomaster Original (6871)**: Compact tri-compax chronograph powered by the legendary high-beat El Primero, a collector's precision icon. - **CWC Mellor-72 (600)**: Rugged military diver reissue with Sellita reliability, perfect for no-nonsense tool duties. - **IWC Pilot's Automatic 36 (5400)**: Slim, legible aviation watch blending heritage design with modern automatic comfort. - **Seiko SKX013 Diver (322)**: Affordable PVD-coated compact diver with proven 7S26 toughness for everyday abuse. - **Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight (2961)**: Vintage-inspired 39mm dive legend with in-house MT5402, offering Rolex-level quality at accessible luxury. - **Zodiac Automatic 18k (1000)**: Distinctive gold-accented automatic adding subtle bling to the tool roster. - **Rolex Oyster Perpetual 34 (4000)**: Clean, versatile everyday automatic with timeless OP simplicity and Oyster robustness. **A.I.
