My German two-watch collection - Looking for repair advice on the Junghans.
Well I wanted to show off my perfect (to me) two-watch German collection consisting of a Sinn 556 | B and a Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope. I feel like these two watches do so much heavy lifting and are appropriate for just about any occasion/ dress. Couldn't be happier with my choices! I got the Sinn before my first trip to Austria/ Germany this year to meet my girlfriend's family for the first time - We got engaged on the trip! So there's lots of sentiment there. I bought the Junghans when I got back to balance it out :-)
A couple weeks ago my dearest fiancé (who likes to speak with her hands) accidentally swatted the Junghans out of my hands while I was getting undressed and it hit the bathroom tile, cracking the domed plexiglass crystal. :-(
I went through the repair form submission on Junghans' website only to reach the end and not have an option for residents outside of Austria and Germany. Does anyone have any repair advice they can help me with? If I can get a domed Saphire crystal that would be great, but from what i understand the plexiglass just has a better vintage look to it. I'd like to keep this repaired directly by Junghans if possible but I'm open to anything. Any advice is welcome, thank you!

# Collection Review: 2 Watches - Junghans (50%) / Sinn (50%) ## Collection Summary **"Modern Minimalism"** This collection, aptly named "Modern Minimalism," showcases a refined selection of timepieces that emphasize clean design and functional elegance. The collection excels in its cohesive aesthetic, with both watches embodying a minimalist approach that appeals to enthusiasts of contemporary design. The Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope stands out with its Bauhaus-inspired design, offering a chronograph function that adds a layer of complexity to its otherwise simple appearance. The Sinn 556 I complements this with its robust build and legible dial, making it a versatile choice for everyday wear. This collection is ideal for collectors who appreciate understated elegance and practical functionality, with a focus on high-quality German craftsmanship. The collection's strengths lie in its design coherence and versatility, making it suitable for both formal and casual settings. ## Overall Collection Rating: 7.1/10.0 - **Dials & Design Metric (8.5/10.0)** - The collection features exceptional craftsmanship with the Junghans' Bauhaus design and Sinn's clear, legible dial, both offering a unique aesthetic appeal. - **Functions Metric (8.0/10.0)** - Both watches provide practical features, with the Sinn offering robust water resistance and the Junghans featuring a chronograph function, enhancing their everyday usability. - **Brand Metric (7.5/10.0)** - Junghans and Sinn are respected brands within the watch community, known for their quality and design, though they lack the global prestige of higher-tier luxury brands. - **Versatility Metric (7.5/10.0)** - The collection covers both formal and casual use cases effectively, though it could benefit from a broader range of styles. - **Material Metric (7.0/10.0)** - The use of stainless steel and sapphire crystal ensures durability, but the collection lacks the use of more luxurious materials. - **Movement Metric (7.0/10.0)** - Both watches feature reliable automatic movements, with the Junghans using an ETA-based caliber and the Sinn utilizing a Sellita movement, offering solid performance. - **History & Innovation Metric (7.0/10.0)** - While both brands have a strong heritage, the collection lacks groundbreaking innovations or historical significance. - **Complications Metric (6.5/10.0)** - The Junghans' chronograph adds complexity, but the collection is otherwise limited in its range of complications. - **Rarity Metric (6.0/10.0)** - Both watches are relatively accessible, with no limited editions or unique pieces to enhance exclusivity. - **Cohesiveness Metric (6.0/10.0)** - The collection maintains a consistent theme of minimalist design, though it could benefit from greater thematic diversity. ## Collection Strengths, Ideas for Improvement, Downsizing Advice ### Collection Strengths The collection's key strengths lie in its cohesive design language and practical functionality. Both watches offer a minimalist aesthetic that is both timeless and versatile, suitable for a variety of occasions. The use of high-quality materials and reliable movements further enhances the collection's appeal. ### Ideas for Improvement 1. **Introduce a Dress Watch**: Adding a classic dress watch, such as the Nomos Tangente, would enhance the collection's versatility and provide a more formal option. 2. **Incorporate a Diver's Watch**: A diver's watch like the Seiko Prospex would add a sporty element and increase the collection's functionality with enhanced water resistance. 3. **Add a Vintage-Inspired Piece**: Including a vintage-inspired watch, such as the Longines Heritage, would bring historical depth and a unique aesthetic to the collection. ### Downsizing Advice If downsizing is necessary, consider removing the Sinn 556 I, as its style and functionality overlap with the Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope. This would streamline the collection while maintaining its minimalist theme. ## Watch by Watch Summary 1. **Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope (7.8) - Price Estimate: $1,219** - Brand (7.5), History & Innovation (7.0), Rarity (6.0), Material (7.0), Dials & Design (8.5), Movement (7.0), Complications (6.5), Functions (8.0), Versatility (7.5) - A Bauhaus-inspired chronograph with a minimalist design, featuring an automatic movement and a clean, legible dial. 2. **Sinn 556 I (8.0) - Price Estimate: $1,290** - Brand (7.5), History & Innovation (7.0), Rarity (6.0), Material (7.0), Dials & Design (8.5), Movement (7.0), Complications (6.5), Functions (8.0), Versatility (7.5) - A robust, versatile watch with a clear dial and strong water resistance, ideal for everyday wear.

We don’t usually buy gifts for each other this time of year, but my lovely wife has always wanted a Cartier with diamonds. She has a smaller Tank Francaise from @ 15 years ago and always second-guessed why she didn’t get the diamond bezel model (The easy answer? We couldn’t afford it at the time obviously LOL). So, we tried on a lot of watches and went with the Santos. I absolutely love them both. I thought I’d end up with the blue face but the white just hit me in a classic sort of way and I have an older Omega Seamaster with the blue face. We are both excited!

After 6 years with my SMP300 as my first and only luxury watch, I finally branched out to my second: the Santos.
Hey all - just got the Santos in this morning after falling in love with it at the Cartier boutique! I have been looking for a new watch recently because, although I absolutely love my Omega, I’ve found occasions where it felt too large/not dressy enough.
I had originally been eyeing dress watches specifically but decided I really didn’t want to spend this kind of money only to wear the watch a few times a year. So instead, I switched up my search to find a GADA watch that can also be easily dressed up for any situation. Enter the Santos!
It’s only been on my wrist for a couple hours but it is one comfy, comfy watch. Love the quick link and quick change bracelet technology and it wears so light it almost feels like I’m wearing nothing.
Now I think I’m done…right? Or maybe….

I’ve always been drawn to the more “chonky” look despite having 7.25” wrists, but I am interested in what your dream utility watch is and why?

8 years in. A little bit of everything.
From left to right, starting on top row and then to bottom: Maurice Lacroix Phase De Lune Les Classiques - acquired in ~2018. I liked this watch as a broke college student and tracked it down some years later. love this one, but cannot find the right strap to go with it.
Omega Speed Master Sapphire Sandwich- not too much to say. Classic.
Zenith Chronomaster Original - bought to celebrate first child. One of my favorites.
1960s Wakmann Triple Date - newest acquisition. Val72C movement. What’s not to love.
Tag Heuer Carrera 1887 - wedding present from my wife. Been getting more wrist time on leather than the bracelet.
Oris Big Crown Pointer Date - first nice watch I ever bought myself. Getting the least amount of wear right now.
Oris 65 - another blue oris. This one is my “beater” and get the most activity in the lake, with yard work… etc
Tudor BB 58 - uncle Seiko bracelet is doing it for me right now.
Mido Decompression Timer 1961 Rerelease - felt a wanted a diver with a light/spring feel to it. This one hits all the boxes. Fantastic.
Sarb017 - not much to say on this one. Good, dependable and classic.

## **10 Watches - Omega (20%) / Oris (20%) / Maurice Lacroix (10%) / Zenith (10%) / Wakmann (10%) / Tag Heuer (10%) / Tudor (10%) / Mido (10%) / Seiko (10%)** ### **Collection Summary** **"Balanced Complication"** This collection presents a well-rounded selection of watches, emphasizing a balance of modern sports watches, heritage-inspired pieces, and complications. The Omega Moonwatch Professional and Zenith Chronomaster Original anchor the collection with their horological pedigree, while the **Wakmann Triple-Date Chronograph** and **Maurice Lacroix Les Classiques Moonphase** provide traditional complications that enrich the collection’s versatility. **Complication depth** is a clear strength, with moonphases, chronographs, worldtimers, and triple-date mechanisms offering mechanical variety. The **Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403** and **Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer** further expand the functional diversity with heritage aesthetics and travel-friendly complications. **The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight** and **Oris Divers Sixty-Five** offer durable dive watch options, complementing the everyday wearability of the **Tag Heuer Carrera 1887.** With pieces spanning from Swiss luxury to Japanese workhorse movements, this collection blends accessibility and refinement. The **collector profile** leans toward someone who values functionality, historical relevance, and design variety over pure brand prestige. There’s a strong emphasis on mechanical complexity and vintage appeal, making it an excellent mid-to-high-level enthusiast’s collection. --- ### **Overall Collection Rating: 8.5/10.0** - **Complications Metric (9.2/10.0)** – With moonphases, triple-date chronographs, worldtimers, and column-wheel chronographs, the collection excels in complication variety and execution. - **Functions Metric (9.0/10.0)** – Features like GMTs, moonphases, high water resistance, and date complications ensure strong practical utility across different settings. - **Movement Metric (8.9/10.0)** – In-house calibers from **Omega, Zenith, Oris, and Tudor** elevate the technical execution. The **Oris Calibre 403 and Zenith El Primero** add a strong horological foundation. - **History & Innovation Metric (8.8/10.0)** – The **Moonwatch, Chronomaster, and Black Bay Fifty-Eight** contribute significantly to watchmaking history, bolstering the historical depth. - **Dials & Design Metric (8.7/10.0)** – The **Maurice Lacroix Moonphase, Wakmann, and Zenith** bring a mix of classical and sporty aesthetics, offering a diverse visual palette. - **Material Metric (8.4/10.0)** – While most pieces use stainless steel, the finishing and execution elevate the material quality. The inclusion of vintage-inspired elements, domed crystals, and classic brushed finishes enhance this score. - **Versatility Metric (8.3/10.0)** – From dress watches to tool watches, the collection is highly wearable in multiple settings, with strong representation in both formal and casual categories. - **Rarity Metric (8.2/10.0)** – The **Wakmann Triple-Date, Maurice Lacroix Moonphase, and Mido Ocean Star Decompression** provide unique appeal due to limited availability or heritage designs. - **Brand Metric (8.0/10.0)** – A mix of heritage brands (Omega, Zenith, Tudor, Tag Heuer) with strong secondary players (Oris, Maurice Lacroix) gives the collection a well-rounded presence. - **Cohesiveness Metric (7.8/10.0)** – While the collection has strong balance, the presence of both modern and vintage reissues creates some stylistic fragmentation. --- ### **Collection Strengths** ✅ **Excellent complication diversity** – Moonphase, worldtime, triple-date, and chronograph functions enrich mechanical variety. ✅ **Strong movement selection** – The collection includes the **Zenith El Primero, Omega Co-Axial chronographs, and Oris Calibre 403**, enhancing technical credibility. ✅ **Good balance of dress and tool watches** – Pieces like the **Maurice Lacroix Moonphase and Oris Divers Sixty-Five** ensure adaptability in multiple settings. --- ### **Ideas for Improvement** 1️⃣ **Increase high-complication representation** – While there’s solid variety, adding a **perpetual calendar or minute repeater** would elevate the collection’s complexity. - 📌 Suggested Watch: **JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual (14,500)** – A refined complication watch with historical significance. 2️⃣ **Introduce a precious metal option** – Most pieces are stainless steel; introducing gold or titanium would enhance material breadth. - 📌 Suggested Watch: **Grand Seiko SBGY002 (9,500)** – A stunning **gold Spring Drive dress watch** to add warmth and luxury. 3️⃣ **Add an avant-garde or independent piece** – A watch with a **modern or unconventional design** would diversify the aesthetic range. - 📌 Suggested Watch: **H. Moser & Cie Pioneer Centre Seconds (11,900)** – A minimalist yet bold independent piece with excellent finishing. --- ### **Downsizing Advice** 🔻 **Consider removing the Oris Divers Sixty-Five (1950)** – While a solid dive watch, the **Black Bay Fifty-Eight** already fulfills the vintage diver role more effectively. 🔻 **Consider removing the Seiko Prospex Alpinist (538)** – The collection leans toward Swiss horology, and this piece, while practical, does not add unique complications or brand prestige. --- ### **Watch by Watch Summary** 1️⃣ **Omega Moonwatch Professional (8.9/10.0) -** 🏆 The historical anchor of the collection, with a legendary movement and design. 2️⃣ **Zenith Chronomaster Original (8.8/10.0) -** High horology chronograph with El Primero pedigree and stunning execution. 3️⃣ **Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight (8.7/10.0) -** Vintage-inspired diver with exceptional finishing and wearability. 4️⃣ **Maurice Lacroix Les Classiques Moonphase (8.6/10.0) -** Classic **moonphase dress watch** with understated elegance. 5️⃣ **Tag Heuer Carrera 1887 (8.5/10.0) -** Modern **column-wheel chronograph** with racing heritage. 6️⃣ **Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403 (8.4/10.0) -** Signature **pointer-date function with an in-house movement**. 7️⃣ **Mido Ocean Star Decompression Worldtimer (8.3/10.0) -** Vintage-inspired **decompression dial diver** with GMT functionality. 8️⃣ **Oris Divers Sixty-Five (8.1/10.0) -** Retro-styled dive watch with strong heritage influence. 9️⃣ **Wakmann Triple-Date Chronograph (8.0/10.0) -** Collectible **vintage-inspired chronograph** with strong complication appeal. 🔟 **Seiko Prospex Alpinist (7.8/10.0) -** Affordable, durable field watch, though slightly redundant within the collection. --- ### **Final Thoughts** This collection is **well-balanced with strong complication depth and movement diversity**. With excellent horological credibility, it caters to both tool watch lovers and those who appreciate classic complications. Fine-tuning with a **higher-end complication or avant-garde piece** would elevate it further, making it an even more cohesive, high-end enthusiast’s collection.

I was inspired by other "Air, Land, and Sea" posts to slim down my collection to just these three watches. All three brands have interesting history, but each watch is so unique in its components, design language, and feel. The Damasko DS30 is my newest acquisition and is the most durable piece I've handled. The Oris BCPD Calibre 403 is my current daily, and its incredible 5 day reserve is difficult to comprehend. The Seiko SBDC101 is a staple in any collection, and I have found myself saying I'll never let it go.

These are the three pieces that I wear the most currently. I’m looking to add another piece, I was leaning towards going up the ladder to Patek or Audemars. I’m trying to keep my collection unique, I don’t want anything too common so I tend to stay away from Rolex. But I was wondering what you guys thought I should go with? Dress watch, sports watch, let me know!

Collector Description:
I've been aiming for a simple but versatile collection and I'm very happy with how it turned out. These are the final three pieces. There were many, which came and left but these three can keep me content at least for the near-mid future.
Zenith El Primero 1969 tricolor 42mm. One of the coolest chronographs out there. It wears a tad large on the wrist but can be pulled off.
Omega Seamaster 300M 42mm. My daily driver and couldn't be happier with it; dress it up or down, it does all.
Longines DolceVita midsize 43.8mm lug to lug. My latest acquisition. I've been eyeing a reverso and later a tank solo for years but didn't want to break the bank as I don't have too much use for a dress watch. This is a great and affordable alternative to those.
Over the years, I've spent a bit over €10K on these three pieces (all from AD but with tax refund), including an extra strap for each watch. What would you have chosen?
