Collector Description:

Hi, looking for feedback on my Watch Frame please because I think it looks brilliant. But this could be bias as I made it myself in my shed. It took a few attempts but I’m really happy with the end result.

Back story - in July, I took delivery of my Baltic MR01 and I love that Watch so much that I didn’t want to store it in a Watch box. I loved seeing it laid flat on a black canvas and had the idea to store it a little differently. Fast forward a couple days and I had the raw materials to give this a go.

Really interest to hear people opinions, I love it but just wanted to know if others feel the same.

Recently picked up “The Style of Time” by Mara Cappeletti for my coffee table and wanted to show off my two watch collection! I purchased my first real watch (Omega Speedmaster cal. 1861) five years ago when I entered pilot training. This year I added a Breitling Navitimer B01 that I purchased to celebrate returning from a six month deployment/upgrading to Aircraft Commander. I recently upgraded to Instructor and am thinking about either getting a Big Pilot Petit Prince or getting on a waitlist for a Pepsi GMT. Let me know which you would do in the comments!

Omega - Speedmaster Moonwatch 311.32.42.30.13.001 - Choco dial, this is what got me hooked to movements, and now a solid case back is almost a deal breaker for me.

Grand Seiko - Spring Drive SBGA433 - A China Limited Edition of 222 (actual production is rumored to be 182). Interesting dial and unique mechanism.

Frederique Constant - Slimline Manufacture Moonphase FC-705BG4S6 - A very fine watch for the price (pre-owned). 42mm is large for a dress watch, but lug is short.

Tag Heuer - Aquaracer WAY2112.BA0928 - Was my starter watch, features an awkward 20.5mm lug width (yes 20.5mm, not 20, not 21).

Seiko - Seiko 5 SNK807K2 - Was a gift from my brother.

Casio - Calculator CA53 - No explanation needed.

Casio - A159 - The legend itself.

Currently thinking to add either GO Panomaticlunar, JLC Reverso Duoface, or CW Bel Canto.

# **3 Watches – Omega (33%) / Cartier (67%) Collection Review by A.I. WatchMetrics** --- ## **Collection Summary** **"Timeless Icons"** This collection brings together three **timeless and historically significant pieces** that excel in design, heritage, and versatility. The **Omega Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 42mm** represents **precision engineering and space exploration history**, while the **Cartier Tank Must** and **Cartier Santos Two-Tone** embody **iconic luxury, Art Deco aesthetics, and elegant sophistication**. With a strong **heritage focus**, the collection scores highly in **history & innovation, dials & design, and brand prestige**. The **Moonwatch’s legendary NASA association**, the **Tank’s century-old timeless design**, and the **Santos' status as one of the first wristwatches** contribute significantly to the collection’s appeal. The collection also demonstrates **versatility**, covering **formal, casual, and professional settings**. The **Santos Two-Tone bridges luxury and sport**, while the **Tank Must is a quintessential dress watch**, and the **Moonwatch remains a tool-oriented chronograph** with strong daily wear potential. Despite its strengths, the collection could **benefit from a greater variety of materials and movement types**. Adding a **modern sports watch or a more complex timepiece** could further enhance the range of **complications and functionality**. --- ## **Overall Collection Rating: 8.5/10.0** - **History & Innovation Metric (9.8/10.0)** This collection boasts **three watches with immense historical significance**. The **Omega Moonwatch** is arguably the most famous chronograph ever, having been NASA-certified and worn on the moon. The **Cartier Tank and Santos** have over a century of history, with the **Tank being one of the earliest mass-produced wristwatches and the Santos pioneering the pilot watch category**. - **Brand Metric (9.5/10.0)** Cartier and Omega are both **highly prestigious luxury brands**. Cartier is an **iconic maison known for shaping wristwatch design**, while **Omega’s Speedmaster series holds legendary status in horology and space exploration**. - **Dials & Design Metric (9.3/10.0)** The **Cartier Tank Must and Santos Two-Tone** have **distinctive, timeless dial designs with Roman numerals and impeccable finishing**. The **Omega Moonwatch retains its vintage-inspired, high-contrast chronograph dial**, ensuring **strong legibility and classic appeal**. - **Versatility Metric (8.8/10.0)** The collection covers **formal, business, and sporty settings**. The **Tank Must is a true dress watch**, the **Santos Two-Tone offers a luxury sports aesthetic**, and the **Moonwatch functions as a professional chronograph and everyday sports watch**. However, a **dedicated diver or casual everyday piece would enhance overall versatility**. - **Material Metric (8.5/10.0)** While the **Santos Two-Tone introduces gold**, the **other two watches are stainless steel**, limiting material diversity. A piece featuring **platinum, titanium, ceramic, or exotic materials** would improve the variety. - **Movement Metric (8.3/10.0)** The **Moonwatch’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement is highly advanced**, featuring a **column-wheel chronograph, anti-magnetic properties, and METAS certification**. The **Cartier pieces utilize reliable in-house and third-party movements but lack horological complexity**. - **Complications Metric (8.0/10.0)** The **Moonwatch brings a chronograph complication**, but the **Cartier Tank Must and Santos Two-Tone are time-only watches**. The collection would **benefit from additional complications such as a GMT, moonphase, or annual calendar**. - **Functions Metric (7.9/10.0)** The **Moonwatch has a robust feature set**, including **chronograph timing functions, high-contrast readability, and anti-magnetic properties**. However, the **Cartier pieces prioritize aesthetics over functional versatility**, lacking lume, water resistance, or additional mechanical features. - **Rarity Metric (7.5/10.0)** While all three models are **widely available**, the **Moonwatch’s strong collector following and continuous refinements elevate its desirability**. The **Cartier pieces remain luxury staples**, but their **mass production prevents them from being truly rare**. - **Cohesiveness Metric (7.5/10.0)** The collection is **united by a focus on timeless horology**, but the **Moonwatch’s tool-watch nature contrasts with the refined Cartier aesthetic**. A **shared complication or material synergy would further unify the collection**. --- ## **Collection Strengths** - **Historical Prestige** – Every watch in this collection is a **hallmark of horological history**. - **Balanced Luxury & Functionality** – Cartier brings refinement, while Omega brings tool-watch robustness. - **Versatility** – The **Tank for dress, Santos for luxury sport, and Moonwatch for casual/sporty tool wear**. --- ## **Ideas for Improvement** 1. **Enhance Complications Variety** – The collection is **complication-light**, with only a **chronograph** present. Adding a **GMT, moonphase, or annual calendar** would diversify functionality. - **Suggested Addition:** **Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Moon (≈$9,500)** 2. **Increase Material Diversity** – The **Santos Two-Tone introduces gold**, but more **exotic materials** like titanium, ceramic, or platinum would add depth. - **Suggested Addition:** **Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGA413 "Shunbun" (≈$6,500)** (Titanium) 3. **Introduce a Casual or Dive Watch** – A **dive or rugged everyday watch** would bridge the gap between the formal and tool-watch segments. - **Suggested Addition:** **Rolex Submariner No-Date 124060 (≈$10,000)** --- ## **Downsizing Advice** If reducing the collection to **two watches**, the **Cartier Tank Must** could be removed. The **Santos Two-Tone still covers formal and luxury settings**, while the **Moonwatch provides sport/tool capability**. Removing the **Tank Must** would **increase complication diversity while maintaining Cartier’s presence through the Santos**. --- ## **Watch-by-Watch Summary** ### **1) Omega Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer (8.9/10.0) – Price Estimate: $5,141** - **Brand (9.0), History & Innovation (10.0), Rarity (8.0), Material (8.0), Dials & Design (9.0), Movement (9.2), Complications (8.5), Functions (9.0), Versatility (8.5)** - **The ultimate chronograph, worn on the moon, with modern Co-Axial movement and METAS certification.** ### **2) Cartier Santos Two-Tone (8.7/10.0) – Price Estimate: $10,300** - **Brand (9.5), History & Innovation (9.5), Rarity (7.5), Material (9.0), Dials & Design (9.5), Movement (7.8), Complications (7.0), Functions (7.8), Versatility (9.0)** - **A historical pioneer in pilot watches, blending sport and luxury with a two-tone case.** ### **3) Cartier Tank Must (8.4/10.0) – Price Estimate: $3,500** - **Brand (9.5), History & Innovation (9.0), Rarity (7.5), Material (7.8), Dials & Design (9.3), Movement (7.5), Complications (7.0), Functions (7.5), Versatility (8.0)** - **An elegant dress watch with a century-old legacy and minimalist sophistication.** --- ## **Final Thoughts** This collection is a **brilliant fusion of timeless design and horological prestige**, combining **historical icons with versatile wearability**. While **lacking material and complication diversity**, it excels in **heritage, brand power, and refined aesthetics**. Expanding with a **complicated or high-tech sports piece** would elevate its balance, but as it stands, this is an **exceptional foundation for a collector who values history, elegance, and classic watchmaking**.
