Guess you could say I’m a sucker for black faced watches with no date windows. I have my eyes on a Tudor Monochrome or Longines Legend Diver as my next addition.

-Tag Heuer Carrera - grew up around cars and racing. My dad has had a Ferrari F1 poster in the basement with the Heuer logo on it for as long as I can remember and I always wanted one. Didn’t want to go that vintage so this is the next best thing.

-Rolex Explorer - always loved the no date sub as a kid but as I got older the less popular, more understated Explorer just grew on me.

The Tudor Black Bay 54, a compact dive watch, brings classic vintage Rolex-Tudor DNA into a modern package.** The collection excels in **versatility, movement quality, and balanced aesthetics**, ensuring **coverage across sport, dress, and everyday wear**. **Its only notable gap is the absence of complications beyond timekeeping and date, which would add technical depth to the collection.** --- ## **Overall Collection Rating: 8.0/10.0** - **Versatility Metric (9.0/10.0)** **Covers adventure, casual, and dress categories effectively, making it highly wearable across different settings.** - **Movement Metric (8.8/10.0)** **Features in-house and high-quality automatic movements, including the Nomos DUW 3001 (highly efficient and ultra-thin), Tudor’s robust MT5400, and Seiko’s 6R35 with extended power reserve.** - **Dials & Design Metric (8.6/10.0)** **Distinct aesthetics with the sleek Bauhaus execution of Nomos, the classic vintage-inspired Tudor dive design, and the practical yet stylish Seiko Alpinist field watch layout.** - **Brand Metric (8.5/10.0)** **Tudor, Nomos, and Seiko are respected brands in their respective segments, with strong reputations and consistent watchmaking excellence.** - **Material Metric (8.2/10.0)** **Solid stainless steel across the board, with strong case finishing and high-quality sapphire crystals.** - **Functions Metric (7.8/10.0)** **Lacks high complications but provides solid everyday utility with water resistance (Tudor BB54), field durability (Seiko Alpinist), and slim elegance (Nomos Orion).** - **History & Innovation Metric (7.7/10.0)** **Tudor and Seiko contribute historical significance, while Nomos brings modern minimalist watchmaking innovation.** - **Cohesiveness Metric (7.5/10.0)** **The collection has a strong theme of simplicity and functionality but could be slightly more unified in material or style consistency.** - **Complications Metric (7.2/10.0)** **Mostly time-only watches, with minimal complications beyond date functionality.** - **Rarity Metric (7.0/10.0)** **All three watches are relatively accessible, though Nomos and Tudor have lower production numbers compared to Seiko.** --- ## **Collection Strengths** - **Well-rounded mix of sports, dress, and field watches.** - **High-quality movements, including Nomos’s in-house DUW 3001 and Tudor’s COSC-certified MT5400.** - **Strong brand reputation across different price segments.** - **Great balance between vintage-inspired and modern design aesthetics.** --- ## **Ideas for Improvement** 1. **Introduce a Mechanical Chronograph for Greater Complication Depth** - **Suggested Addition:** **Zenith Chronomaster Original (≈$8,500)** – A high-beat chronograph with El Primero heritage. 2. **Enhance Dress Watch Luxury with Precious Metals** - **Suggested Addition:** **Grand Seiko SBGW295 (≈$9,000)** – A hand-wound Grand Seiko dress watch with Urushi lacquer dial and gold case accents. 3. **Include a High-Complication GMT or World Time Piece** - **Suggested Addition:** **Longines Spirit Zulu Time (≈$3,000)** – A refined pilot’s GMT with historical inspiration. --- ## **Downsizing Advice** If reducing the collection, the **Seiko Prospex Land Alpinist SPB243** could be removed. **It slightly overlaps with the Tudor BB54 in ruggedness and durability, though it does serve a distinct field watch role.** --- ## **Watch-by-Watch Summary** ### **1) Tudor Black Bay 54 (8.7/10.0) – Price Estimate: $3,900** - **Brand (8.5), History & Innovation (8.2), Rarity (7.5), Material (8.3), Dials & Design (8.6), Movement (8.9), Complications (7.5), Functions (8.7), Versatility (9.2)** - **A vintage-inspired 37mm diver that echoes the 1954 Submariner while offering modern Tudor robustness.** ### **2) Nomos Orion Neomatik Dore (8.6/10.0) – Price Estimate: $3,580** - **Brand (8.5), History & Innovation (7.8), Rarity (7.2), Material (8.0), Dials & Design (8.8), Movement (9.0), Complications (7.0), Functions (7.8), Versatility (9.0)** - **A minimalist, ultra-thin Bauhaus dress watch with a gold-toned dial and in-house automatic movement.** ### **3) Seiko Prospex Land Alpinist SPB243 (7.8/10.0) – Price Estimate: $750** - **Brand (7.5), History & Innovation (7.2), Rarity (6.8), Material (7.8), Dials & Design (8.2), Movement (8.2), Complications (7.2), Functions (8.0), Versatility (8.5)** - **A durable field watch with 200m water resistance, compass bezel, and a sleek yet rugged design.** --- ## **Final Thoughts** This is a **thoughtfully curated collection**, featuring **a rugged field watch, a minimalist dress piece, and a vintage-inspired dive watch**. The **primary missing elements are high complications like chronographs or world timers**, which would further enhance its technical appeal. However, **as a functional, versatile, and stylish everyday rotation, this collection is highly effective.**

Collector Description:

Better late than never. I'm a purist, and I love watches that scream their brand's DNA. Here are 5 watches from my collection that best represent my lifestyle, budget, and taste in watches.

*I had a tough time between my FXD and my Black Bay (for sentimental reasons), but eventually went ahead with the former. The BB line may be the flagship/heritage model for Tudor, but I strongly believe that the Pelagos line is the future and the best representation of modern-day Tudor. Also, I have been enjoying my FXD a lot more.

P.S. My Gorilla watches deserve a special category on its own.

While it contributes to the collection's elegance, its overlap in style and movement with the other pieces makes it less critical to the collection's overall diversity. ## Watch by Watch Summary 1. **Grand Seiko Caliber 9R 20th Anniversary Karasawa SBGY035 (8.8) - Price Estimate: $8,500** - **Brand (8.5), History & Innovation (8.5), Rarity (8.5), Material (8.8), Dials & Design (9.0), Movement (8.7), Complications (7.0), Functions (7.8), Versatility (7.5)** - Features a Spring Drive movement with a 72-hour power reserve, showcasing Grand Seiko's technical prowess and elegant design. 2. **Grand Seiko Red Katana SBGA493 (8.5) - Price Estimate: $6,000** - **Brand (8.5), History & Innovation (8.3), Rarity (8.0), Material (8.5), Dials & Design (8.8), Movement (8.5), Complications (7.0), Functions (7.5), Versatility (7.0)** - Known for its striking red dial and zaratsu-polished case, powered by the Spring Drive movement. 3. **Grand Seiko Autumn Red SBGH269 (8.2) - Price Estimate: $7,300** - **Brand (8.5), History & Innovation (8.0), Rarity (8.0), Material (8.5), Dials & Design (8.5), Movement (8.3), Complications (7.0), Functions (7.5), Versatility (7.0)** - Features a Hi-Beat movement with a 55-hour power reserve, celebrated for its autumn-inspired dial design.

Everyday, Dress, Sport. 5 years, starting with Citizen, then Dan Henry, and then entry into the swiss world with Tissot.

I have scored a mint condition Omega Speedmaster Reduced in 2022. I am cursed (or blessed) with a 6.25" wrist, so the watch market is tricky to navigate. This watch was made for me.

Bought the Tudor Black Bay 54 in 2023, something that goes for sporty events or summer. Immediately swapped the metal bracelet for a NATO strap, and to a Vanguard rubber a few weeks ago.

Can't leave 2024 without a watch purchase, so crowned it all with a Grand Seiko SBGY013 "White Omiwatari". For those once a year occasions when I have to dress up in a suit. Not sure if it's possible to outdo a Spring Drive.

Collector Description:

These are the watches that get the most wrist time.
In order of most worn:

1. Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300m - NTTD
This watch is the first Omega and if you have followed me for a while, you know I love it. It is my favorite of all the watches in my collection.

2. @micromilspec Field Testing Unit
This was the first watch I bought, that I had really fallen for. It is also very special to me, as this watch is a one of a kind piece. It has a special story behind it. Check out my website for more.

3. @desandershorologie Voyager GMT
A very special watch and my newest acquisition. A truly unique piece and it has given me a lot of enjoyment so far. Given that one of my friends has been one of founders of this brand, it has a lot of value to me personally.

4. Swatch Grand Prix neo-vintage piece
This is a callback to my childhood and awakens a lot of memories from my childhood. It is also a great piece to add something a bit interesting and different to a daily outfit.

5. Casio F105W
Not the classic F91W, which I used to wear as a daily piece. I somehow fell for this watch, with its simple blue and black color scheme. Also, the electroluminescent backlight is great. I use this one, on every one of my nightshifts.

In total, my watch collection consists of 8 watches. I will be selling off some of the watches not in this shot. In a way this exercise, which forced me to choose 5 watches, helped me see which ones are important to me. Might have to do some consolidation.
